Are you just straight crawling or do you go trailing too?
Just crawling.

Maybe just sat there not being used but no way, not 3 hours being used.

I use the crawler innovations front plate with a mounted 1450 3s. Get a solid 1 hour runtime on my sport. I have 2 batteries so really I can run all day having one charging while one is running.

Which batteries are you running? How to you like the CI tray?

My bad there 1500mah 3s. There great batteries for the money!
I highly recommend the CI tray if your going to use smaller packs. Perfect for them..

I got the wide inner fenders on my sport kit, they needed to be trimmed at the corners and for the headlight buckets. They come with a front mount battery tray. Just got a 1550 MaH 3s battery and it's very tiny, I'll do some measuring and get a slightly larger one next time. Placing the battery up front and removing my previous 5500 MaH and stock battery holder moved the fore-aft balance point maybe 15mm forwards.

Here's my opinion. Some people are using small packs up front in front of the servo. Too small for large batteries and the weight too high.

Bowhouse gives you a lower center of gravity, but it moves the weight rearward which will hurt in climbing hills. If you install this tray you'll surely have to add weight up front.

The stock battery is a good compromise.

I went with a LCG Battery tray I found on Ebay.
It limited rear suspension travel so I raised it just enough to clear links.
Then a full size battery didn't fit, trimmed rear cross member.
Good to go.

You can see where the factory mounting screw in the rear was.
Just moved it up to miss the original screw hole.

I'll add some brass upfront to even out the balance.

I run GensAce 4300 3s in front of the servo, fits perfect between the wheel wells.

Battery on a side tray is a good spot. Rig is a little off balance but the stability is vastly superior. Can do donuts all day with out flipping over. I just adjusted my preload to account for the weight but if you were a hardcore crawler I'm sure you'd probably be frustrated by it being heavy on one side. That's a 4300mah 3s LiPo shorty pack.

On my D110 I use a LCG tray because of the interior. That was a one way route basically.

On my G500 rig, I came up with a solution, mostly out of need because I already had the 5000MAh batteries and didn't want to spend more on shorter ones. I modded the stock tray and made it sit towards the front of the rig, above the motor.

It moved the CG up a bit than the LCG tray, but also moved it forward which made a big difference with climbing. It's performance is better than the stock position and it costs next to nothing.
