Motor and Esc Suggestions

Hello

Picked up a trx4 roller but it has no motor or esc and will be using a proline body. I was looking to get a hobbywing 1080 esc and holmes hobbies trailmaster sport 550 21t but the motor is not available in most stores even amainhobbies doesn't know if they are getting any. I did find this motor a tenshock 2400kv 6 pole sensor less and i was thinking of using a castle creations mamba micro x crawler esc which mentions can use up to 8lbs. Want some speed too with 2speed, Thoughts?

I run that combo, my truck is just over 10 lbs. It is amazing!

I don't have experience with Castle ESCs, but I can tell you that I love my HW 1080! I paired mine with a Holmes TorqueMaster Expert motor (keep in mind the TRX needs a reverse rotation) so I could tweak the timing for the rev-rot'. My rig is set up more for slow crawlin', but even with an 8T pinion it will scoot along at 10-mph on 3s. And together they were about $120. "thumbsup"
Just my 2 cents.

The first decision you need to make is brushed or brushless. The HW1080 and HH Crawlmaster Pro 12t w/9t pinion is a really great combo. I have two TRX4s running this setup and is it powerful and smoooooth slow speed. I also have one TRX4 running the HW1080 and HH Trailmaster Sport 21t w/9t pinion which works very well just not as smooth as the Crawlmaster Pro but for $20 it is a very nice motor. Finally, I have one TRX4 running the CC Mamba X and 1406-2280 Slate motor w/9t pinion and it is also a great setup just different. I would not recommend the CC Mamba Micro X. It is a little under powered for a TRX4 IMO. The Micro would probably work but it will be operating closer to it's limits.

IMO, by far the best deal going from a $ stand point is the HW1080 at $40 and HH Trailmaster Sport 21t at $20. Arguably the best $60 you can spend on a crawler. Which ever ESC/motor combo you decide on I recommend a 9t pinion on the 2 speed transmission equipped versions of the TRX4s.

I am using the mamba x with their 3800kv crawler edition motor with a 9tooth pinion on 3s :) smooth and powerful! Still working on the throttle curve and programming the accessory cable to use a super mellow curve when switched to low range. Very cool features.
