| What motor should i upgrade to?
Im kind of a newb when it comes to this stuff, im wondering what motor i should upgrade to. I love everything my TRX4 has to offer but i want more top end speed, and do NOT want to sacrifice low speed crawling. Matter of fact, i would like more throttle modulation and slower speed when i want it for the crawling. I would like to keep everything else original including my remote controller. Is the goal of more top end without sacrificing anything else possible with just a motor change? If so, what motor should i get? Thanks! End goal ideally is 20+mph spending under 200$ and sacrificing no low end throttle control Last edited by TRX4; 10-20-2019 at 09:28 PM. |

Why do you want more top end? What's your goal? Are you using 2S or 3S batteries?

I’d recommend Holmes Hobbies Trailmaster Sport 550 in 21t or 27t, or the Crawlmaster Sport 13t or 16t. Great quality and cost effective for less than $20-25.

If you aren't already, running 3s LiPo will give more speed. If you're looking for better control, a Hobbywing 1080 ESC and a Holmes Hobbies Trailmaster Sport 550 21t or Crawlmaster Sport 550 12t. The 1080 goes for about $40 and the Holmes Hobbies Sport motors go for about $20. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk |

I'm running the 2s for crawling and 3s to rip around the yard. I'd like more top end for just messing around the yard and chasing my dog lol it tops out at 12mph the way it sits. I would like it to go 20+ Budget I'd like to stay with is 200$ and under |

You're asking the impossible in my opinion. You can't have everything what you want simply by changing the motor. It sounds like a brushless setup is what you're looking for. But for about $200 checkout the Castle Mamba X brushless combos. Last edited by JatoTheRipper; 10-20-2019 at 07:20 PM. |

I'd lean towards the Trailmaster for speed, although I'd go for the 12t Trailmaster if you truly want speed. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk

Considering the stock motor is 21T I just don't see the Holmes 21T getting him to 20MPH. The 12T might, but like I said he'll be eating brushes way more often. I still think brushless is the way to go for what he wants.

I hear ya on the wanting to go fast thing, for whatever reason I want this thing to fly too! lol I recently upgraded the motor and ESC to a HH Torquemaster Expert 21T w/ HW 1080. Kept the stock gearing and it maybe picked up a bit more speed on the top end over the Titan setup. It definitely wheelies harder when you goose it in 2nd gear! I was hoping for even more top end and might swap to a brushless setup in the future. Or maybe I'll leave it alone and just buy something that's made for "go fast"! That being said it was a great upgrade overall and the low speed control, power, and torque are really nice with this combo. Been seeing/hearing a lot of buzz on the AXE combos. Maybe try the 3300kv version to get the speed you want? Have fun! https://www.amainhobbies.com/hobbywi...020254/p981612 |

I had the 1080 & Holmes Hobbies Trailmaster Sport 550 21T on my TRX4 Defender. I loved that brushed setup so I donated it to my Gen7. I have a Holmes Hobbies Trailmaster Sport 550 12T, yes 12T, w/ the stock TRX4 esc on my Twin Hammers and its low speed control is really good in low gear. High gear is great as well, maxed at 23.x mph. I upgraded my TRX4 Defenders electronics to the Castle Mamba Monster X and slate 3800KV. Adjusted the throttle curve so the low gear crawls amazingly and drag brake is 100%. Hit switch to high gear, it’ll wheelie at command while rolling, I love it. Tried 6S, hit a trash can and couldn’t even get full throttle due to not enough space. Last edited by HelloRocks; 10-21-2019 at 05:44 PM. Reason: Forgot stuff |

How was the throttle modulation down low and would you need to add a slipper clutch or nah? Last edited by TRX4; 10-22-2019 at 01:28 PM.

I didn’t get the mph readout on the TRX4 though, the 23.x was on high gear of my Vaterra Twin Hammers stock gearing but it seems about the same. My twins is using the stock esc from my TRX4. I run 3S on all my rigs.
