JDm74's Blazer Gonna go ahead and start this now since some parts have rolled in. This won't be some sort of "epic build" because I'm not that talented, lol. Mostly just a record of what I'm doing so people that come after me have something that pops up in their searches. This is my first TRX-4 and as Jato knows I had a bit of trouble justifying it. We did some searching and found just enough evidence of a real 1:1 K5 on portals to get me to go ahead and pull the trigger. I originally wanted the TRX-4 Sport assembly kit but I really want the selectable lockers. After this dropped I was sold as the K5 has always been cool to me and this is my chance to actually own one. New servo and ESC. Nothing special or ground breaking. Hoping the truck arrives at the LHS next week or so. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7817/...34ed05d8_b.jpgUntitled by JASON MCKIMMEY, on Flickr Not my truck but pick of the version I am getting. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7919/...9b8e9a96_b.jpgUntitled by JASON MCKIMMEY, on Flickr Stay tuned. |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Hell yeah! Congrats! |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Good luck! Just finished an install of the 1080 and a savox Servo Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Thanks guys. Does anybody have a Traxxas link in their transmitter? I have one in my UDR and I was thinking about taking it out and putting it in this one when it comes in. Do I need one in the UDR Transmitter to keep my settings there or can I swap it around? Edit: Found the answer. For those wondering: https://forums.traxxas.com/showthrea...in-Transmitter |

Re: JDm74's Blazer Yeah but did the 1:1 run off of an electric motor and use a HW 80 ESC? Don't think so. So send it all to me. Yeah I'm being an ass. But c'mon? Justify it? These are frickin toys. Frick a frick! Looking forward to build updates/photos! |

Re: JDm74's Blazer The Red and Black Blazer is the perfect candidate for your local Fire Authority themed Blazer. I think my son might have a Hot Wheels Fire Dept. Blazer. https://www.ethanproductions.com/hot...6123334915.jpg |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Agreed, but I think this will get a custom body like almost all my crawlers. |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Hey, look! More parts arrived for a truck I don't have! So since the TRX-4 has selectable lockers, I don't think anybody makes a Ox Locker diff cover for it, annnnndddd RPP was having a 15% off sale on St. Patrick's day; I present these (I also despise chrome diff covers): https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7891/...0ed15b31_c.jpgUntitled by JASON MCKIMMEY, on Flickr |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Love the ARB diff covers. Looking like a good start. |
Re: JDm74's Blazer "LIKE" those ARB's :ror: |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Quote:
I’m not a fan of chrome diff covers either, but I might just try painting mine black. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: JDm74's Blazer I saw the new G-wagon comes with black diff covers so if you could figure out the part number for those that would be pretty cheap, not as cheap as painting them though. |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Strip the chrome off with Easy Off oven cleaner then paint them. Done. |
Re: JDm74's Blazer I knew there was a way to remove the chrome, Just couldn’t remember what you had to use. Thanks! |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Gotta be easy with that oven cleaner. Just cleaned an old 350sbc with some and that stuff is potent. Works great just stay out of the wind lol |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Hey look, even more stuff for a truck I don't have yet! This is getting old. Just release it already Traxxas. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7881/...d9320fca_b.jpgUntitled by JASON MCKIMMEY, on Flickr |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Nice wheels, JDM! I didn't realize someone made a beadlock style Chevy truck rallye wheel. What brand and model are they? BTW, I would have to think your truck should be arriving very soon. Mine came into my LHS on Tuesday. "thumbsup" |

Re: JDm74's Blazer Anybody got any good scale tire suggestions? I was looking at the RC4wd Iroc's because they are the right diameter and pretty dang scale. Seems a little tough to find a 4.65ish tall tire. |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Quote:

Re: JDm74's Blazer 4.65 is scale? that seems HUGE to me, but then i just realized the monster tires they put on these TRX4's and now that seems modest haha looking good so far! great idea on those oem chevy beadlocks! |

Really just looking for what people are running on their Broncos because I think the wheel wells are about the same size as the Blazer's. |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Finally got the truck today and wasted no time starting the mods. Servo is installed and HW1080 is installed as well. Waiting on a 3" servo wire extension for the ESC. Surprisingly, the servo lead was plenty long to reach the RX box. Don't mind the bullet connectors, they will be heat shrinked before it is turned on for the first time. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7894/...70667c2a_b.jpgUntitled by JASON MCKIMMEY, on Flickr Servo required no elongating of holes to fit like I have read on here multiple times. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7856/...120ef969_b.jpgUntitled by JASON MCKIMMEY, on Flickr So I took my wheels and tires off my Ascender and put them on to see how they look. They are Vanquish KMC's with OE rock beasts. I like the smaller size tire and the tuck on the wheels. I also lowered the suspension down by taking all the preload out of the shocks. Might need to see if I can make a slightly shorter panhard bar to center the axle at ride height. It's not off by much but I can tell and it will bother me forever if I don't fix it. So what do you guys think about the tire size and ride height? I have some RC4wd rally wheels that I am going to run. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7847/...40c8d821_b.jpgUntitled by JASON MCKIMMEY, on Flickr |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Tire and ride height look fine. It’s a pretty subtle change imo. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: JDm74's Blazer It looks good. Rally wheels would look perfect. |
Re: JDm74's Blazer I'm curious to see how well those RC4WD wheels sit on the TRX-4 axles in regard to their backspacing and overall stance. I just picked up the orange and white K5 last weekend. I'm in the process of yanking the electronics in favor of the same steering servo as yours, as well as a Mamba X and 2400kv sensored brushless motor. I've got a set of regular size Rock Beasts that I want to run on mine but I like the rally style wheels, so I'm glad someone makes them in a beadlock. I kinda dig the stock tires, but I'm also adding some brass portal covers on all four corners, so I figure the added weight will do the stock foams in. |
Re: JDm74's Blazer I think I nailed it.... https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7877/...265bfaaf_b.jpgUntitled by JASON MCKIMMEY, on Flickr https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7864/...339f6ded_b.jpgUntitled by JASON MCKIMMEY, on Flickr https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7857/...3176f4cc_b.jpgUntitled by JASON MCKIMMEY, on Flickr https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7853/...9cfdb5db_b.jpgUntitled by JASON MCKIMMEY, on Flickr |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Yes, Yes you did nail it! Now I know how mine will look when I get it.[emoji106] |

Re: JDm74's Blazer +1 the wheels look great. |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Yup, you nailed it alright. The 4.5 tires look perfect in relation to the wheel wells. Nice update! |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Took it out for its maiden voyage and stripped the stock servo horn in about 20 minutes. I can already tell it is more capable than anything I have mostly because of the ground clearance of the portals. I was very surprised where it went with open diffs. On to the pics. https://live.staticflickr.com/7899/3...61e14e35_b.jpgUntitled by JASON MCKIMMEY, on Flickr Carnage: https://live.staticflickr.com/7849/4...0787a2f5_b.jpgUntitled by JASON MCKIMMEY, on Flickr The factory metal arm that comes with the sport kit is actually kinda hard to find in stock right now. I managed to find it on Ebay. The Al horn that came with the servo has 2 positions neither of which line up with the stock horn. |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Metal servo arm installed today. Waiting on rain to go away for testing. |

Re: JDm74's Blazer Looks GREAT!!!! I seriously love the RC4WD wheels. Keep in mind that Traxxas now sells optional springs for the GTS shocks which allows you to play with spring rates and really dial in the suspension to your driving style and terrain. |
Re: JDm74's Blazer Looks like a tooth on the servo is all bent? Truck looks good. Not sure how the RC4WD center caps mount but definitely wondering if the ones from the stock wheels fit onto them? That would look killer. |
