Extending front shock mount outward? I wanted to get some thoughts here. I ordered a set of the GRC rear C-hubs that also act as lower shock mounts. Well, i didnt wanna drop the coin for the GRC G2 hubs for the front to match so what are the thoughts on this setup? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...beb078e5ea.jpg These particular spacers came with these shocks i am running and the two combined push the shock about 8mm outboard. This lines them up near perfectly with the stock hub. |
Re: Extending front shock mount outward? The stock plastic link mounts will be takin' a lot more twist torque, especially the panhard side. It may work, as long as it doesn't take too hard of a bump or drop. I just ordered a brass set for mine because I noticed the panhard mount side flexing a good bit just from the steering servo. And mine has the GRC c-hubs, so the shocks aren't doing any of the twisting. ;-) jmo 8) jim |

Agreed. Was gunna see what happened and get metal ones if need be. |

One thing about moving the shocks out, is that it would increase the effective spring rate, but only when the axle is rolling side to side as opposed to straight up and down. If you think about the axle rotating around its center, moving the springs out is like putting them on a longer lever. Have you noticed this? |
Re: Extending front shock mount outward? And it gives it ever so slightly longer travel, as it takes just a bit more axle movement to fully compress the shock. The gains may not be that significant, but I don't see any loss from the angled shocks either. ;-) 8) jim |

Isnt it less travel when you move it outboard? The outside of the axle moves up farther as it articulates. |
Extending front shock mount outward? I tried this along with the grc c-hubs and definitely stiffens the suspension bit. It doesnt like to use its travel unless it really has too. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...953c54ca27.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b8bd69d236.jpg |
Re: Extending front shock mount outward? All it costs to try is a couple longer screws. I may give this a try myself just to see what happens. I have the GRC rear axle mounts and I am using the shock mount holes. Even with just the rear shocks spread I notice a more stable ride. |

I found 35 mm screws was ideal for my particular setup. |
Re: Extending front shock mount outward? After reading this thread, I went down to my work bench and added 6mm spacers to the front shocks of one of my TRX4s and plan to drive it tomorrow to see if there is any noticeable difference/improvement. I'm really curious. |

Re: Extending front shock mount outward? Quote:
Its stiffer rolling but the same stiffness straight up and down. Its almost like adding sway bars. |
Re: Extending front shock mount outward? Very interesting. Thanks. |
