Exclamation Binding/grinding when wheels turned...

I noticed a strange noise when turning. I had something wrapped around one of the hubs. When I was fixing it, I noticed this: https://youtu.be/b8ry3CdoRK4

That’s not my video, but I have the exact same issue. Can anyone confirm whether theirs does this as well?

One of the comments says Traxxas support said its normal and not to worry about it, but wow, that’s quite a nasty sound and I feel like it will end up causing damage.

Strangely enough, removing a wheel will make the noise/binding/grinding stop.

I’d appreciate any input - thanks!

Make sure your drive shafts are in phase, there are dashes on each end that should line up.

You can try and shim the axles as needed so there isn’t any play where the drive shaft and the pinion gear shaft connect.

I would also check the bearings to make sure they haven't failed.

Thanks. Drive shafts are in phase. Will check the bearings.

Kinda disappointed. I’ve got less than 6 hours on this, most of which were my two little girls driving on the deck and grass in our backyard.

It’s a strange issue for me to get my head around. No binding at all unless the wheels are turned. And only with two wheels installed. With only one wheel, no bad noises.

I have not disassembled everything to check each bearing on its own, but there is no new slop at all. Driveshaft cups and output shafts seem solid.

I’ll report back when I’ve taken it apart.

In the means time, I’m open to any more suggestions. Thanks.

The further from 0* the axle shafts get the more pronounced the chatter gets. On my comp rigs with 70* of steering you can watch the front tires nearly stop then accelerate only to slow back down again 160ish degrees later. Such is the life of a steering joint with only 2 axis allowing movement.

Its 100% normal.

yep this "chatter" is normal.

Some people are saying they took the wheels off and it stopped so it must be the wheels hitting something which is not the case the wheels simply add weight and size compared to a tiny wheel hex (when no wheel is mounted) that exaggerates this natural chatter.
