Stock TRX4 shocks are REALLY good. So good that I run them on almost all my other crawlers. Why you itching to swap them out? |

Agree that they are very good. However, to be honest, they do require a little bit of work to be great! It's worth the effort for sure.

What’s the secret to reducing the dampening? I am considering drilling out the pistons but figured someone had a better idea. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I put 10 wt oil in mine with lighter springs (30's). I also pulled off the bottom caps, wrapped a couple layers of teflon pipe-thread tape around the threads, and screwed the caps back on until they just touch the seals. The tape keeps the caps from unscrewing, and the seals are tight enough to seal without any pressure. That really helps with the stiction, and lets the shocks move without "breaking them loose". That took them from GOOD shocks to GREAT shocks. So far NO leaks, and my truck moves a lot "looser" now when you rock it around and, of course, on the rocks too. The lower cap trick helped even before I swapped the oil and springs. jim |

Tuning the Traxxas TRX4 GTS shocks does not have to be complicated. Unscrew the X-ring retainer cap, lube the X-rings with Green Slime, reinstall the cap to finger tight, loosen the cap 1/4 turn. Done! From there you can adjust the damping by using different weight shock oil. I run 10wt in the winter and 20wt in the summer. Traxxas now offers a series of six optional rate springs so you can easily tune the shocks to the weight of your particular rig. For example, my Sport is currently running the 0.30 rate springs.

Replacing the spacer between the X-rings with a thinner one helps to free them up, more info here Has anyone rebuilt their shocks yet? |
