Purchasing a trx4 bronco this month. Have a few questions.

Good evening,

Im planning on purchasing a trx4 bronco this month to add to my trail truck collection. Have a redcat gen 8 scout II. I have lurked on this site quite a bit and read that there have been issues with the micro shift servos. I thought i had read that it is possible for them to be over worked and thus leading to stripped gears or burning oyt all together. Now im not hard on my gen 8 as i trail with it and do light crawling. Its very well taken care of.

Any advice you guys could give would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

I've run mine for well over a year without issue. As long as the endpoints are set correctly (as they should be from the factory - double check) they should hold up well. Keep the cables lubed for sure, I think a lot fail due to sticky cables which then overworks the servo.

There are some "dud" servos from the factory, like any RTR electronics but Traxxas is pretty good at taking care of you should you have an early failure.

I've linked a thread here that I found very informative regarding the micro shift & locker servos on the trx4. It's rather long ( 8 pages) but has some very helpful info regarding operation, potential issues, remedies, epa, replacements, etc.

If you’re worried about the servos you could always get a sport kit and add a bronco body. You’d get the looks and remove a potential weakness.

That said I have a bronco and as long as you use the servos while slightly moving they should hold up.

Don't worry about the shift servos. I have five TRX4s for a total of 15 micro servos and in two years and over a thousand hours of drive time I have had to replace exactly one micro servo and that one was my screw-up.

Ok I know I'm late to the party, lol. Hope you got your bronco. You won't regret it. I've had my trx4 for 1 1/2 years and the shifting servos have never failed me yet. My boy has had his bronco since the beginning of the year and they work great still. But his steering servo has been giving out. One of thoses you hear about all the time.

Only problem I had with my Bronco is the steering servo went out after a fairly short time and the only driving I do is on my flat street and thru mt yard a bit. Traxxas replaced it free as a one time courtesy so can't complain.
