TRX-4 Blazer/Bronco or TRX-6 Mercedes?

So I have a Gen 8 Scout that is my dedicated crawler. I've been happy with it but would like to add another truck to my collection. I'm interested in the TRX because of it's proven reliability, 2 speeds (for times I want to bash a bit), and the stellar bodies. I'm so amazed at how Traxxas was able to make the Bronco and Blazer SO realistic!

Now here comes the Mercedes 6x6. It's a little bit more but you get a whole lot more truck IMO, w/ the 6x6 and the 2.2 wheels/tires that seems like it will crawl just about anything. Add in that beautiful Mercedes body with the LED lights included, I'm wondering if I should shell out the extra coin for it, as opposed to the Bronco or Blazer.

Thoughts?

Re: TRX-4 Blazer/Bronco or TRX-6 Mercedes?

TRX4 advantage

- LOVE the scale looks of the Bronco & Blazer
- cheaper than the TRX6
- bigger aftermarket
- easier to haul around
- better crawler because of shorter wheel base

TRX6 advantage

- bigger 2.2 tires, more capable in deep stuff
- WOW factor of having a 6x6
- comes with LED lights, so wouldn't have to spend $$$ to upgrade
- Mercedes body is a sight to behold, amazing scale details (exhaust!)

$600 vs $500

I don't think I could go wrong with either. Part of m

IMO, I would start with the TRX4. It is a bit more versatile than the 6x6

If you are planning to bash it, one thing to think about is the cost of replacement bodies. I imagine replacing that G wagon body would be quite expensive on the TRX-6 while you can put a cheaper body on the TRX-4 and save the Bronco/Blazer body low risk situations

Re: TRX-4 Blazer/Bronco or TRX-6 Mercedes?

Got myself a TR4 Blazer and am VERY happy so far! Already replaced the crap servo with an Annimos 25kg one, and am debating on what brass portal weights for the front that I want. Should I get them for the rear as well?

Not planning to heavily mod this, just want it to be able to hang for some rock crawling.

For looks the only thing I intend to do is get the Traxxas light kit or a Mytrickrc one like in my Scout.

I dont own the bronco/blazer, but I got the Defender-chassis, Sport-chassis and the trx-6.

If you're going for comp.crawling I would pick the sport.
If you're going for trailing, climbing and rock-crawling, the trx-6 is my vehicle of choise..

For what it's worth, the Bronco/Blazer would be to me as the Defender, it's just a tiny bit shorter.. But for me the Defender is not going to get a lot of usage in the future, coz' that trx-6 outclimbs my Defender even if the Defender got first class tires and heavier axles and stuff while the trx-6 sits on original axles and wheels, it's just mindblowingly good. The only thing you can put a finger on is the turning radius, but then again the turning radius is far better than I expected, so not even there it kills the fun..

So for my usage in the future I'm going to use the trx-6 for trailing and hauling the sport to the tight crawler tracks. The Defender-chassis..? Collecting dust I guess..

Re: TRX-4 Blazer/Bronco or TRX-6 Mercedes?

THE TRX-6 DOES NOT HAVE BIGGER TIRES. It has larger wheels, but the tire height is the same as the TRX-4. As far as I can tell, Traxxas only used 2.2" wheels on the TRX-6 to get a more scale-accurate appearance for the MB G63 specifically.

Anyway...I own a TRX-4 and a TRX-6, and I'm not convinced the TRX-6 is actually superior. It's definitely cool, and it's definitely as good as the TRX-4, but the main reason to buy a TRX-6 instead of a TRX-4 is because you want a TRX-6.

Exactly... it’s pretty darn awesome, but “better” would be subjective. So many variables & situations...

Weight wise is about the same though. My TRX-6 only weighs 9.6 pounds dry (no battery).

Ride height looks great with the Hyrax. How does it climb compared to the stock tires?

Re: TRX-4 Blazer/Bronco or TRX-6 Mercedes?

Way more grip, a noticeable difference when climbing up stuff then the stock tires. The heavier beadlocks help too.

Trx6 is way more stable the tires are same outside diameter as the 1.9 tires the rim is 2.2 but i put on a set of 125 mm tires with 120 mm shocks lost a bit of stability but out of the box its great but its not a brinco or blaser

Re: TRX-4 Blazer/Bronco or TRX-6 Mercedes?

I started with the TRX-4 Defender. Found out that the Proline Dodge Power Wagon was a 313 wheel base. I bought the Bronco next just to use the Dodge body. The shorter wheelbase suffered on straight up climbs and step ups. I bought the conversion kit and now climbs as well as my first rig. The TRX-6 in the right situation...is capable of a little steeper climb than the others. It also will traverse a pothole ...where the others will bottom out. I imagine there are tight spots where the others will out perform the trx-6, but I have yet to come across this. It is quit agile for such a big rig. I equally enjoy all my rigs.

Like the Hummer on the trailer, is that a TRX4? What body is that? Did it come painted that color or did you paint it. I've been looking for that color and can't seem to find anything close for lexan. All great looking rigs BTW.
