Default Aqualung’s Sport Build

Finally decided on a Sport build. I wanted the Bronco, but in kit form with no electronics, at least no radio. Maybe some time will allow Traxxas to make that happen. Patience allowed me to bid on an
eBay kit, but impatience and losing led me to flat out buying one.

So far here’s my build/purchase list:
-Turnigy GT5 6 channel Radio (basically a Flysky GT%
-Titan 550 Motor (being different, and will eventually buy the Holmes when I get better a soldering.)
-Hobbywing 1080 esc
-EBay $20 Servo
-Turnigy 3S 2200mah 40C lipo
-EBay Beadlocks
-Blue Metallic/Black paint - Deep Metallic Blue

I’ll be using stock tires and foam. I need a little help picking out EBay Rims or even SMC rims that fit with no modification. I have read through the Wheel thread, but still need more help. Also a little help with a decent Jig or kit to solder correctly. Mean while I will be watching vids on YouTube.

Congrats! The Sport is a great rig!

The Hobbywing 1080 is a great ESC for the price and will work out well for you.

The stock Canyon Trail tires are a great tire and can be made to be better with a little cut and sipe. I am still running my stock modified Canyon's and they do very well.

As for the wheels, some of the Injora wheels will rub on the portals. I had a set of Injora's on mine when it was new and the inside bead lock ring of the wheel rubbed slightly on the portal. I was able to use a Dremel to remove a tiny bit of plastic on the top of the portal to allow them to work. In the end I installed a set of Vanquish 1.9 Roost wheels with 475 hubs and have zero issues with portal rub. I believe 350 hubs will also work to though.

Default Aqualung’s Sport Build

Was a busy day, price shopping, and getting best deals I could find. Here’s the parts I ordered, and are on their way. Sport Kit gets here tomorrow, so let the build begin. Super excited.

-Titan 550 Reverse rotation motor
-Turnigy GT5 Radio and an extra receiver for my Stampede
-Turnigy Nano-tech 3S 2200mah & 1300mah
-1080 Hobbywing ESC
-Polymax 4mm Bullet Connectors
-Traxxas Method Beadlocks & Silver Rings
-8080 Sport Inner Fenders
-8081 Fender Extensions
-10K & 20K Shock oil

Next on my list is the Savox 1210sg. I decided to buy once, cry once on this part as it’s one of the most important. Rather than spend 27$ on the Annimos 25kg servo, better to apply it towards the Savox.

I also need a good soldering station so I think I’m going with the TK-950, unless someone has another suggestion?

My first question of the build is. I see the Titan motor has crimp type bullet connectors. 3.5mm? Does that mean I can use my ratcheting crimpers or is it better to just solder new gold ones to the motor and the esc?

Since you're getting a HW 1080 ESC and will need to attach motor connectors there, I'd just get a set of 3.5mm or 4mm connectors, they're easy to solder on.

But it's no big deal if you want to wait before trying soldering, crimp-on types will work fine.

I fully understand wanting to wait to try soldering, having a tremor issue myself that causes me to procrastinate whenever it comes up!

Ha yea. I’ve been battling with weakness and numbness from degeneration and bone spurs in the old neck. Tremors have been tamed from medication. Good times!
I have a good friend that works on electronics. I picked up some Gold 4mm bullets. I’ll exchange some beer for his expertise. While he’s at it I’m thinking of getting a spare motor.
I have experience with butt and crimp connectors and not soldering.

Hobbyshop was a little limited on paint and I’m anxious, so I went with an army type green and black for the Fenders. Also have a Hot Racing aluminum motor mount on the way.
Also should I stick with the stock pinion and spur gear or different one?

Starting the build . Came across a Facebook peep selling HW1080 mounts. So I ordered one last night, and they are in the next state over, and for 8$ and change shipped, not too bad! Tracked my other parts and they will all be here except the radio, esc, and batteries. Fingers crossed they get here Wednesday.

Nice Hoyle! Looks mean and I like that color. Medium flat gray was my first pic, then olive drab green. They only had green so I took a chance, lol and it’s perfect.
I like the light bars. Sis you do the HW1080? I need to add lights. That’s next on the list!
