Great videos! Did you tweak the tracks? Looks like they work better than the first time.

Thanks mewalsh. The trax have been a lot of fun for me, so far. So far I have nothing negative to say about them. It would be cool if Traxxas made a few different patterns of track treads to suit snow depth, temperature and terrain. Much like there is for a snowmobile. I could see myself accumulating them just like tires. You should get a set, the quality seems good. Traxxas sets a high bar for themselves.

Thanks mg! I have not tweaked the trax at all in fact. The first time I ran them I didn’t let them adjust to the outside air temp before hitting the powder. The initial snow that contacted them melted because I had just taken them out of the house and they were warm. That water then froze and one track mechanism froze up subsequently. It was a brain fart on my part, it only takes 5 minutes to let them cool down.

They also run much better on 3s. They require a lot of power to run in snow efficiently.

That is a cool video smog!

If seen these tracks run on dirt and rocks and wasn't very impressed, but I enjoyed watching yours out in the snow. They look like they would be a lot of fun.

I may have to pick up a set for my TRX-4 now that as of this morning I have roughly 3-4 inches of snow on the ground with more to come tonight!

Pretty cool, the tracks seem to work well.
Do they have a clutch or something?
Sounds like there's a small clicking sound at obsyices before you backup and change your approach.

Thanks B! I find them clumsy on hard, rough surfaces. It’s unlikely I will ever use them in summer. Really, I picked them up to help make winter crawling more interesting. Certainly happy I did.

That sound is actually a track rubbing the lower corner of a fender. I keep forgetting to trim the lower corners of the fenders back.

It’s a really good video.

One day I might take the time to edit and such. It’s just not a process I have gotten into. I shoot them and post them unedited. I guess that is my lazy style

Wow, I didn't realize Scale Town was just one guy! Man he's good!

I've been subscribed to his YT channel for awhile now and always look forward to seeing new vids!

I agree. Top to bottom I built this rig specifically for winter. Pretty pleased with how it turned out.

You do have a nice mid 70’s Ford in white if I remember correctly.

2 tone white and blue. I have the body but I sold off the rest. Might be time to dig it out of the closet

Right! We are having an odd start to winter. The snow pack is incredibly thin and getting crusty. We just havent seen much snowfall, I am looking forward to a refresh. The Traxx do feel natural in the snow. While obviously still limited by their scale proportions, they hook up in a way tires simply cannot. They are bringing out the excited child in me, so I can't complain...

Next plan is the OD/UD gears for the axles. One thing about the traxx is that they are pushing forward way too hard through the turns. I can envision hitting some tighter lines with these things with some reduction in the back.

Hope you are and you family are having a great holiday season! Thanks for popping in.

Still waiting for snow here in northern Illinois. The tracks look like they make easy work of the white stuff. Very cool.

They feel quite at home in the fluffy stuff. I find they really do make running in snow a thing that can be dialled in.

Happy New Year RCC!

Twas a beautiful day today and had some time to take the X4 Yeti Rescue Truck down to the river for a run in some fresh snow. Was a nice way to say 'later!' to another decade of living. Was a fun couple of hours out.

The X4 has been gobs of fun. Mostly have no significant issues with how it's running. However I am looking forward to the rear UD gears which should be landing later this week

First day of the year, first busted part on the X4. A little digging into RCC and it's pretty clear I am not the first to crack off the pan-hard mount. No surprises there, its a plastic appendage that sees a lot of stress. Probably didn't help that I launched the truck in sub-zero temps. Total brain fart on my part. I was caught up in the moment. My LHS only carries the Hot Racing Shock Mounts. A little research into these turned up evidence that the pan-hard mount on them is as weak as a wishbone. Considering they only come as a set of 4 and are pricey I decided to mail order a set of Samix from Amain. The consensus on RCC seems to be that they are the reputable replacement part. They certainly look beefier than either what STRC or Hot Racing have to offer so I am not surprised. The way I see it, I buy aluminum so that I never need to buy that part again.
