Been awhile since I have run my TRX4, not since last winter anyway. No surprises there really, I built 'er to be my winter rig. Snow has been late arriving here, but we finally got a reasonable snowfall. Figured I would take a test run in the back yard to see if all was in order. Shot a short video of it

Wasn't too happy about still not have tail lights mounted in place, so decided to solder and crimp me some lights

Hey Gus, nice to hear from ya! You are definitely in the right place for them. I assume you guys have some snow by now? They now sell the kits with the longer paddles included, which is better for the softer stuff

Not really any snow yet. Just got about an inch two or so yesterday. Hoping to get my new project started soon. Have to finish up my current customer build first. Going to try an scx10 iii.

I noticed you have been tearing it up lately, the speed bug bit ya! Have enjoyed your videos. Myself, I drooled over the Laser Nut for awhile, but then winter hit... and saved me a few bucks:ror:

Sounds like you have it right in building for others, i assume it is custom work?

You should post your Axial build up here. Would be cool to see it"thumbsup"

Yeah a scx24 6x6 recovery rig is my current build I am building for a customer. Have a video on my YouTube channel of part 1. Should have part two up soon. Usually my customers don't want me to put the build on my channel but this guy said go for it. It's turning out pretty sweet so far. Working tow boom, with winch.

I have a video but never did a build thread. This is part one. Should have part 2 up soon. It's so far all scx24 parts.

Even though its winter, I have not spent much time at the bench. Cant seem to sit still. Weather has been mild and my X4 is Traxxed-up. Had another great day in the snow yesterday

Re: Winter is Coming............again?

Went out to my off-grid cabin over the New Year holidays. We don't have any service out there, so I get my electricity from the sun, cook over a propane stove and shit in a hole. We are on a lake, so there is no shortage of water, just need to drill through ice to get at it in the winter. All in all it's an adventure, one that I relish in.

I have been engaging my RC hobby out there for the past several summers to the point where I have marked out a pretty fun set of trails that include a combination of rock, water and bush trail. Over this last trip I decided It was time to get the TRX4 out there for a winter run.

Because there is no road access, a snowmobile is required to get there in the winter. I can drive to within about 30kms of my place at which point I switch to a snowmobile for the rest of the journey.

I packed my rig in a waterproof bin along with my food and such and loaded it in my snowmobile trailer. On my back I carry my sensitive electronics like the transmitter, batteries and charger. On this weekend I also brought my snowshoes. They are my trailmaking tool for winter when the snow gets too deep for 1/10 scale rigs.

Here is my truck loaded up for the trip. Stopped to take this photo on the highway(gravel highway in summer, packed snow in winter)

This is my snowmobile and it's trailer. Taken on the bush trail going in towards the cabin(somehow I cut the trailer off in the photo)
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4578-68559.jpg

This is how I laid out a rough trail for the following days run. It firms up the snow just enough to make it passable and yet at times challenging. Laid this down the day I arrived
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4578-68562.jpg

Had a good New Years eve celebration the night of the day I arrived. Lit a fire, the size of which was unlike any fire I had ever lit before. I collected the wood this past summer over the course of 10 days. It was an effort to be sure. Thankfully it paid off. My neighbors and friends were delighted

http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4578-68558.jpg

Woke up the next day, fried up a big batch of scrambled eggs. Ate it up and washed it down with two large mugs of strong coffee. All the while I could see the X4 patiently waiting atop its transport case and ready to hit the trail
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4578-68561.jpg

So I took it out and got it snowy. The trail worked great and had me out in the bush all day. Worked the whiskey right outta my blood:ror:

Great way to spend the New Years holiday! That would be fun to go off-the-grid away from the crazy times we are in and just chill out!

I miss the days of traveling to the UP of Michigan with the family on snowmobiling trips when I was growing up. We made many trips to Newberry, MI and Paradise, MI. Would take a days long adventure up to Whitefish Point on Lake Superior. It was fun to jump on the sleds and cruise the trails making stops along the way to enjoy the relaxing beauty of the snow covered forest.

I haven't has a chance to check out the latest vid, but it's on my list today!

Happy New Year!

It takes an effort to get get out there, but yeah, is always an enjoyable time. I can be away from the world for weeks on end and never run short of things to do.

The bush trails up there really are a treat on a snowmobile. They are slow going and nestled into the woods. It’s a crawl until they pop you out onto a lake.

Sadly the snow pack has gotten thin over the years so snowmobiling is a slowly dying activity. Not sure I would bother if it weren’t for the cabin.

It is definitely nice to get away from all the mask-wearing and hand sanitizing for a period of time.

Thanks for the comments guys, they are always appreciated.

Happy New Year!

Re: Winter is Coming............again?

Had an enjoyable weekend out crawling in the snow. The good times did not come without a share of adversity however. The switch on my Mamba got the ghost just as I was about to hit the trail and about as far away as I could get from my workbench. I had no choice but to operate and perform a switch bypass mod:ror:. The switch was severed with a swiss army and a bypass performed in the snow. I had no tools or tape, so I twisted together the wires, placed them where I figured they had a chance of staying mated and crossed my fingers

http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4578-68648.jpg

http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4578-68658.jpg

Miraculously, it worked, and a beautiful day was had! Here are the wires still together at the end of the day

Everthing held together well so when I got home last night I soldered it together as it sat and hit it with the liquid electrical tape

Looks like a lot of fun!

Good deal on your trail side repair! Glad it didn’t give you grief!

So that’s All that’s required for the on/off switch delete huh? No kidding!

Wonder if that would be a good preventative measure?

I already unplug everything now due to the servo.

I enjoy your boondocking Trx4 pictures! Keep them coming!

Thanks Benp, yup, pretty easy to get around the broken switch if necessary. the circuit is now closed as soon as the battery is connected. Would prefer to have a switch, but at least now there is one less point of possible failure. Could definitely be done to be preventative, the switch is definitely an afterthought on these nifty little devices.
