Default My 3 days old TRX 4 is making nasty noise while turning

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to figure out what could be wrong with my TRX4

When I fully turn left or right, the truck is making very weird grinding noise.

I'm not able to figure out where it's coming from.

Any idea, also I don't understand why it's only happening when I turn the wheel fully.

Here's a small video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4W6JyhPqPWY

If I remove the front wheels, there's no grinding

Have you set the end points for the front drive L & R? That keeps the U joint from jamming, caused by a tight turn.

Can see it in the video, notice the vibration of the spindles,

No but there was no U joint jamming for the first 3 run, even at full lock

Not sure what wheels/ wheel hardware you're running but are you sure that it's not your wheel bolts making contact against the portal covers? Or the back of the wheel hex?

That does not really mean anything, things change, clearances change. If it were wheel bolts should be able to see some sort of wear marks, bolt heads or portal cover.

Well.. no idea if OP has taken the wheels off to inspect for possible contact issues.. Sometimes it's the simple things.

So both wheels have gone loose the same amount and at the same time. That make any sense?

Just taking stuff a part for the hell of it, can and does in most cases, make things worse .

The word is troubleshoot, not my problem, however knowing there in an end point radio adjustment I be trying that FIRST.

"Well it did not do it before" is not a logical reason to dismiss the idea.

So I did a lot more investigation and the issue is really the cv joint binding. When the truck was new, it was barely noticeable when doing a full lock turn.

I took apart the cv joint cleaned it and polished both the joint and the internal shaft where it is rubbing against the joint. I also added marine grease.

Now it’s much much better, it’s slightly binding only at full lock and when driving the vehicle it behave exactly like when it was just out of the box.

Didn't suggest wheels were loose. Thought it was possible if aftermarket wheels, that maybe wheel bolts might be too long causing contact. Taking wheels off to inspect for contact issues isn't making anything "worse". Setting EPA was a good suggestion too, No need to be so discourteous towards me when I'm just trying to help a guy out.

I'll just add that this chatter is normal though the noises yours made is a bit off putting. You'll also find that this chatter is particularly extreme when the truck is on its lid and this is mainly due to the fact the the moderately heavy wheels exacerbate this chatter by throwing their weight around. Put the truck on the ground and drive it and you'll get some minor chatter but nothing like when its on its lid.

This is simple the nature of universals that are being maxed out. Personally I dont worry about it because I try to drive shiny side up

Its not the first time this has been asked either, you can read more and see another video same as yours here Binding/grinding when wheels turned...
