Front gets overdrive because you want it to pull more/faster than the rear.

Rear gets underdrive for the opposite reason. You want it to spin slower than the front so the front can pull more.

I run both OV/UN on all my rock crawlers mostly for a tighter steering radius. But it also eliminates any torque twists and improves down hill movement. I've have never trailed any of my scale trucks only rock crawling competitions. A trail truck probably doesn't need any more than one if any at all.
