Default Topher revives a TRX4

Those of you that are connected with me on social media have likely already seen this, but I wanted to start a ‘rebuild’ thread as I’m planning on spending a lot of time with this truck this year.

So back in the Pant Danza days I had purchased a trx4 Bronco. Before this truck I had only had one crawler, which was an scx10.2 that was nearly box stock save for some plastic proline wheels, hyrax tires, and a servo. While it was fun, I eventually sold it to a member here and picked up a TRX4 Bronco.

Then, thanks to all of you here the bug to upgrade bit me and as you’ve all seen it’s been downhill ever since. While parts came and went, it was a good learning process and the truck ended up performing quite well.

I ran this truck a lot until I started building more, and little by little parts were taken from this rig and used for others until this was a slider sitting on my work bench for months.

Fast forward to last week, 7 months after the last time I drove it, I had some spare electronics around and got to reviving the rex.

Took it out yesterday and had a lot of fun, I almost forgot how capable this truck is. Portals and all it will still climb, just as well as my trail king and even the 10.2 tiny tired Jeep. Short video below from sunday if you’d like to check it out.

There won’t be many new mods to this truck as it does well in its current state, but it will be getting a new body, possibly a new set of tires, and a lot more wheel time.

Parts that are still on it:
HW 1080 and HH 21T trailmaster sport, JX servo
Overdrive and underdrive gears
eBay axles
Ssd brass portal cover up front
Samix brass chubs and knuckles
GRC aluminum rear shock mounts
HR brass diff cover in front
Samix high clearance links
45/9 spur/pinion single speed
Spooled diffs

One pic of her when she was new new and a couple from yesterday below.

It's great to see the Rex again! I've missed seeing it here and on YT.

Looking forward to seeing the new look!

I know what you mean by adding more rigs to the stable. Some of the greats get left behind. And then one day they are rediscovered!

That sounds a lot like my Sport. I haven't had a chance to drive since last May. Luckily it is still all in one piece. And it has been begging to get off the shelf!

Nice, maybe you'll get me off my butt to finally give the TRX4 the adjustments it deserves to perform as well as my other trucks.

Saw the new video on "the gram." This truck is one of my faves. I also think that it is your best climber.

Thanks BMow! Last May was the last time I drove this one, sounds likely they followed a similar path with all the hotness that 2019 brought us. Hope to see that beauty on the trail again.

It’s a great truck, definitely worth the time and effort. You got a lot on your plate with your builds too!

Excellent. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love seeing this truck at work. A gal at work sometimes drives her son's modded Comanche to work and I spend long moments in the garage staring at it when it's here. All of this makes me want to attempt the Comanche body again.

Oh man you gotta post pics of that rig of you can! The more I think about it the more I feel like I’m going to replace this body with another Comanche.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. Picking out songs to go with these videos is one of my favorite, and most challenging, parts of making and sharing these tiny truck videos.

Yeah, it sounds like it!

2019 was crazy and my wallet took a big hit! But it was fun!

It's looking like 2020 is going to be another great year for tiny truckin'!

I know right?! There were so many nice rigs last year. And they all hit at once after that drought we had when Hobbico was on its deathbed.

There are still 3 rigs I wanna pull the trigger on, but I’m trying to be disciplined. So much good stuff came down the pipeline this past year, it was hard to make a decision!

B-Mow - I agree! I think 2020 is gonna be a great year too. Great time to be in the hobby!

BTW - the three rigs are:
VS4-10

SSD Trail King (planning on doing a super scale rig with the RC4WD Blazer body I scored. It’ll probably crawl like pooh with all the excess weight, but it’ll look awesome doing it!

GS02 BOM - something about the oddball nature of this rig appeals to me for some reason!

Here’s to an awesome 2020 - looking forward to checking out everyone’s new projects and builds!

Glad to see the trusty TRX back on the rocks Topher!

Last year was pretty awesome! I’m really happy with all the rigs that I picked up and still have from last year. Wish there was more time on the weekends.

Looking good!

I just bought a used TRX4 slider for an upcoming build.

I’ll be following along this build for sure.👍🏼

Power and speed wise it’s not bad, the one thing I’m not sure about is the strength of the gears and how quickly they’ll get sloppy. I won’t be driving this one all that often though so I’m hoping it gets me by for a while until the HHV3 comes out. This one is the JX BLS6534HV. It’s 467 oz/in at 0.11 seconds @7.4v

Thanks Dez and congrats on the new rig! Is it your first trx4?
