Default Sport Transmission Smoothness

Hi, I built my Sport kit transmission using slightly more grease than "a drop" on each gear as the instructions say. I basically took an average of all of the posts I read. I did a hair more than a light coating, nothing gunky or heavy. How's that for technical?

Based on the above, I felt that the transmission was smooth but a fair amount of drag when I turned the spur gear. didn't give it much more thought.

I purchased the RCLions aluminum 2 speed transmission as I stripped a couple of screws on the original and I wanted higher speeds. When I turn the spur gear there is almost no drag, the gear actually makes a full turn or two if you spin it.

How much drag should there be?

Thanks for reading

The TRX-4 transmission has a good amount of gears and bearings so it will have drag. And when you add grease that increases the drag. If you can spin it freely with loosely gripped fingers you should be fine.

The RC Lions transmission is the old, 3-gear style correct? If so that transmission has less drag by default. Also, does it have grease inside? That also adds to drag.

Any of the sealed bearings, take out the inside seal. Theres really no use for the inside seal. You will notice a substantial amount of smoothness and the grease from the gears will keep them lubed better. Especially if you dont plan on running in mud-water...

Did you happen to have the pinion on the motor when you checked? Just a long shot but you may have the mesh to tight?
