| Must Have Mod
Hi Guys, If you picked one "must have mod" for the TRX4, what would it be and why? No restrictions on cost or work required. |

New foams if you're into water. As soon as the stock ones get wet, they're done.

So for portal weights, is their any company over another? I was looking at one that had portal ends, C’s, diff covers (I’m trying to remember what else) It got me thinking... does anyone just make full new brass or steel axles in its entirety? And then also, any benefit of brass vs steel? I’m not at the part of weighting my axle. But maybe this summer depending how much my wife gets into her truck. |

GRC makes some NICE all-metal axles. sickpuppy's thread below shows 'em on his sport. They have the high-clearance c-hubs too. jim |

Does anyone know grc website? Did a google search and it just took me to to dealers. I’m trying to see what packages they offer. Also my wife ordered me a Holmes trailmaster 550 21T the other day and I figure if I’m going to swap motors, I’ll see what comes out and might as well be swapped for metal. |

Tungsten would be same weight but harder. Must have Mods are purpose-specific. - Servo: the stock one is crap, everyone needs a better one - ESC: same. also the BEC is weak - Lights: With scale controller (not that china sh*t, real function like the 1:1) and good lamp design this adds great to the look. Useless for the trail, tho. - Wheels: the stock ones are ok, but rims are unscale and the tires are a mixup between scale look & trail function. There are better alternatives either way. - Weights: only useful on the trail, but there they are a game changer - Remote: some people hate the TQi, some love it. As i am a light trailer (no crawling or obstacles), i go the scale way, so Servo, BEC, ESC and lights are mine in almost all my cars. The wheels are mostly stock because they are allrounders, good enough for me. The remote is ok, weight distribution is ok for me too. |

Depending on your luck, the stock servo may not last long. That should be one of your first upgrades. Portal weights would be second. SSD makes the nicest ones out there. https://www.ebay.com/itm/SSD-RC-SSD0...0AAOSwWc1eiWma |

My 1st (and IMO best) mod was addition of the ebay switch to turn rig on/off without removing body. Cheap simple little lever, but totally loved everyday! https://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Qualit...kAAOSwUWtcVOoD |

Only thing I don't like about that switch is that it allows you to forget about the fact that the battery is still connected. Always best to disconnect lipos. | |

| Re: Must Have Mod You should always drive with a lipo checker connected so to check every cell, not just the pack voltage. The XL5 and most other ESCs do have very low warning levels, they are pretty seller friendly. This does work ok on speed models with higher currents, but in a scale crawler you'd get a barely visible warning when it was urgent time to recharge 15 minutes ago, not when you should consider stopping the race in like 5 minutes. And the loud beeper on the not switched off checker will remind you when you forget, while the button is good to disable the model to avoid movements when someone mishandles your Tx.

First thing to get is a good steering servo. You might have luck with that one but any good crawling you will want a a servo with 300+. After that would definitely be brass weights or least change the body if it's the defender model.

If it were me I would get rid of them lockers and go with full spools. Better for crawling and more reliable. Less weight removing extra servo also.

I have a redcat gen7 for ya daughter... oh boy does that steering suck. I ordered the portal kit for it. The folks at redcat said the portals steer as good as the high steer. I was thinking, can I take this traxxas 400 and put it in the redcat with the portals with out any additional bcs etc.... then I can get the steering servo you guys are mentioning for the trx4. I built a course in my back yard, and there is a lot of up and down, and in those downs, a lot of turning, that just murders the steering. (Lots of large diameter tree rounds) |

I have have a HobbyWing AXE 540 1200kv Combo and Savox SA1231SG already in mine, they other 3 servos are stock for now. I still need to get a body to finish mine off. Everyone got me thinking about a weight kit. I may have to get some upgraded rims, tires and foam. What does everyone like?
