My “new to me” TRX-4 Sport

I scored a TRX-4 Sport, ready to run, from Facebook marketplace. The guy said he had just built it after upgrading his TRX-4 Blazer. He moved the body and all the electronics to the sport then sold it to me.

I haven’t been in the crawler game for a while but I’ve been in RC since I was 12. As a full scale A&P helicopter mechanic, I super anal when it comes to mechanics.

Body on pics are from the first session, run in the condition I got it.

After the first session, I took the rig to the work bench.

Found oil all over the chassis, all four shocks leaking. The builder had used some pliers to hold the shock shafts while building. I replaced them with the TiN shock shafts and rebuilt them. I also added a 5mm spacer internal to help lower CG a little.

After rebuilding the shocks, I took a look at the rear portal boxes. The gears were lubed with a very small amount of green slime. This was the case with EVERY gear box on the model. I also rebuilt the tranny as I thought the output shafts were too sloppy, I found the PTFE washers installed on wrong side of the transfer case gears.

After all the mechanical issues where sorted, I installed a Spare Time Hobbies low CG battery tray. Very nice 3D print from VooDoo RC.

Currently waiting on brass hexes and a new RX so I can start using my FS-GT5.
