Mounting FJ40 body with inner fenders Hey guys, has anyone installed the FJ40 body and used the front inner fenders? Hoping to see a photo of the trim work required! https://www.prolineracing.com/images/3508_l.jpg |
Re: Mounting FJ40 body with inner fenders I've got the body mounted but really can't see the point in just the fronts. Wouldn't be a lot used that's for sure. |
Re: Mounting FJ40 body with inner fenders Sorry I should have clarified, the rears fit with room to spare. I’m going to start trimming the fronts tomorrow so I shall find out! I’ll post pics of the results |
Re: Mounting FJ40 body with inner fenders My defender arches are attached to the body else I'd do the same. |
Re: Mounting FJ40 body with inner fenders Here is the finished trim work. After about 150 test fits and re-trims it’s a pretty snug fit to the body so should still keep most of the crud out. Hope my photo uploads work. https://i.imgur.com/ppwRqo4_d.jpg?ma...idelity=medium https://i.imgur.com/NyZxCcR_d.jpg?ma...idelity=medium https://i.imgur.com/4b8nmRv_d.jpg?ma...idelity=medium https://i.imgur.com/AesE3BO_d.jpg?ma...idelity=medium |
Re: Mounting FJ40 body with inner fenders Nice work! I didn't bother with fenders on mine and it looked way too airy in there. That looks much better. |
Re: Mounting FJ40 body with inner fenders Yep looks great though not sure how I'd attach them? |
Re: Mounting FJ40 body with inner fenders Silly question, you gonna bother with bumpers? |
Re: Mounting FJ40 body with inner fenders I was planning to make a set of bumpers out of basic sheet metal, bent into a c-channel to look like old school FJ bumpers. I also ordered a cheap set of classic looking wheels and smaller diameter tires. Hopefully they show up and hopefully they fit right! https://www.ebay.ca/itm/1-9-Metal-Be...m/133370544009 https://www.ebay.ca/itm/INJORA-1-9-V...a/133105146553 |
Re: Mounting FJ40 body with inner fenders Pretty much finished up the FJ40 body now. Home made bumpers front and back. I was hoping for a little darker grey but it still looks like a period correct color combo I think! Side note- you’d think image uploading to a forum would be a breeze by 2020! Re: Mounting FJ40 body with inner fenders Looks great, I made the mistake of painting my window rubbers and not 100% happy with them. I also put m1 screws in all my hinges before I painted for some detail. I'd post pics but cannot be bothered with a photo bucket account lol |
Re: Mounting FJ40 body with inner fenders I appreciate the trimmed inner fender pics, as I am about to attempt the same. Your patience should save me some time now that I see how much needs to be removed. What color grey is that? Looks proper enough. Or any suggestions on a period correctish light blue? |
Re: Mounting FJ40 body with inner fenders It’s tamiya ps-32 corsa grey. Seems to be a limited selection of pastel colours in lexan rattle cans. If you’re looking for a light blue though this should do the trick. Another note if you’re installing this body, I ended up having to lower it about 1/4 to 3/8 inch as my rear body mount was too short (new trx4 kit build) |
Re: Mounting FJ40 body with inner fenders Uh... are we going to just ignore the pickup the 40 is sitting in? Old Ford? The FJ40 looks great - and really has me thinking about doing a similar (okay copying your) project. |
Re: Mounting FJ40 body with inner fenders https://i.imgur.com/sOMkjve_d.jpg?ma...idelity=medium It’s a ‘52 Chevy I built a few years ago. S10 frame, small block with a Muncie 4 speed. Better known as a giant black hole for money to disappear into! |
