TRX4 Brushed vs Brushless Hey guys, was out doing testing after I fixed my TRX4 and my Titan 21T decided it wanted to put on a smoke show. :lmao::lmao: so now I need a new motor. Should I go brushed or brushless? Which is better for crawling? I have 2.2 5.1” Super Swampers on also. Everything else chassis wise is stock. Will I want a higher number than 21T with 2.2s or do I want a lower number? Should I get a motor fan while I’m at it? Running 2s lipo Thanks "thumbsup" |

Re: TRX4 Brushed vs Brushless Holmes hobbies revolvers v2 vs hobbywing axe 550 The Holmes hobbies. Hobbywing axe lighter. .Auto drag brake Way more torque. .More torque than Smaller. Most inrunner More programmability. Motors You need to seal off motor. Fully waterproof Loud. Quiet Stronger Drag brake. Less programmability Bigger Sent from my SM-G986U using Tapatalk |
Re: TRX4 Brushed vs Brushless Depends on your budget and what you want to achieve. My set is about $200. It is a sidewinder 4 and a Holmes Hobby Revolver 1400 (brushless non censored). I use the BLink to program the ESC. TONS AND TONS of low end torque but the revolver does make noise some love and some hate but for crawling it is an incredible motor. For about $80. The lesser expensive and still good option is a 1080 esc and choose from Holmes Hobby Crawl master brushed motors. You can program the ESC with out buying anything extra. The benefit to brushless is the speed, power, runtime and the longevity of the motor. However, if you are just crawling brushed motors seem to last a long time. For about $150. In between would be the Sidewinder 4 with and a Holmes Hobbies crawl master brushed motor and BLink or specific computer cable to program it. The Sidewinder 4 can run brushed and non censored brushless motors. There are other options. These are just the ones I am familiar with. It is important to get an ESC that is programable. |
TRX4 Brushed vs Brushless Just my worthless .02. If you have the Sport model and just want to crawl, I’d definitely regear. I “believe” on the 2 speeds the low setting is ok. Although my buddy really liked going to 10t pinion on his bronco. I have the sport and regeared to 9/45. I only crawl and have no desire for trailing so It was an awesome upgrade over stock gearing for the rocks. If you’re on a budget, I’d get the Hobbywing 1080 brushed esc and a Holmes Crawler Sport. The HW is a great esc with a lot of functions and the Crawler Sports seem to be an excellent value brushed motor. That being said, I’m not really up on the brushed motors as I’ve been brushless after the stock motor. Or pick up the HW 1080 esc and another stock motor. I really like the adjustability of the axe system but don’t like the fact that you’re stuck now with the axe system. You can’t use that esc with any other brand brushless motor. Unless something has changed. The Revolver isn’t for everyone. I have the 2500 v2 and it is noisy. It doesn’t really bother me or the dog but can see how it could be a nuisance to others. In my experience, I was expecting a torque monster from it but it didn’t seem like that great of a leap from the Trailmaster Pro 3300 that was in it before. Both were 9/45 gearing on 3s lipo and Mamba X esc. With brushless you are now looking at a lot more cost as well with the motor and esc. I currently run a Puller Pro v2 2700 and am happy with it for rocks. Another option along with the HW 1080 esc and gearing down is to go to a 3s lipo if you are not currently (such as 2s). A lot of truth to the mantra “volt up/gear down” Good luck! A lot of options out there. (Again just my .02 from my experiences) ETA - beat. [emoji1787] |

Re: TRX4 Brushed vs Brushless Thank you guys for all the suggestions on motors, fans and ESCs. Now here’s my next question. Do I want to go higher than 21t like a 27t or do I want something lower like a 12t? Also note I have 2.2s |

Re: TRX4 Brushed vs Brushless You could try it. Like I said my buddy put a 10t pinion in his bronco and he said it was more snappy. He is also straight traxxas everything like yourself. It’s unfortunate that traxxas did that with their proprietary plug. You’re trapped just like with the HW Axe. |

Re: TRX4 Brushed vs Brushless If I was to put the Titan 21t back in with dual fans, would it just smoke it again? |

Re: TRX4 Brushed vs Brushless Then buy a holmes hobbies torquemaster 45t with a hobbywing 1080 and a regular heatsink Sent from my SM-G986U using Tapatalk |

11t comes stock with the 2 speed. You could drop to 9t pinion and get a 3s lipo to make up for the loss in wheel speed. By going that route you’ll also gain some torque and get cooler running motor temps especially since you’re running 2.2’s. |
