Business as usual with a TRX-4?

I am thinking about to buy me a TRX-4 and wonder what you guys thinking which one to get.

I‘ll go for a Defender, thats for sure.
Two options are possible:
- Sport Kit
- or buy the RTR Defender

I got the chance to pick up a Defender in sandglow, which is allready sold out.
Q: technically there is no difference to the actual models, right?

I will change the electronics right away, so the Sport Kit will be the best solution and i like to build/know my rig.
But... i really like the sandglow body and i don’t have to order everything separately.

Anyway... is the TRX-4 worth the money and how it „feels“ when u allready build a VS4-10?
I never was disappointed by the quality of Traxxas, in this way i think it’s a no brainer.

Thanks for your thoughts and tips!

The sport has a 1 speed transmission and also the diffs are always locked.

Also, the Defender and the Sport have different wheel bases. The Sport has the standard 12.3" WB, the Defender has 12.8" WB.

Thanks for that one!
I missed this fact about the different wheelbases... appreciate!

So the chassis kit would be a better option than the RTR defender.
Body choice will be much easier and a lot more options are out there.

I know building your own kit has its rewards, but the chassis kit is for the 12.3 wheelbase. The defender body is 12.8 wheelbase so you'll have to get the short to long wheelbase conversion kit as well (its like $20 i believe.)

Getting the RTR is the cheapest option. Building it yourself will cost you an extra $90 i think if you get the kit, body, and conversion links separately.

Are you decided which wheelbase you want?

Nevertheless with sportkit you can add all the other features when you find the need of it.

Which radio will you use?

Thanks for your inputs... Great!

RTR vs. Kit:
I know RTR‘s are allways the better deal.
But i am tired to buy something and throw things out, just to take space and collecting dust.

Wheelbase:
What i learn is, that the defender 110 always need the longer WB.
So there is no option...

Radio is a Futaba 7PXR

Other than the obvious color choices, some have clear windows and some have black windows. My red Defender has black windows and I am considering options for clear.

Not really true, you have 4 positions for rear shocktower to maintain needed wheelbase, so it is only about if you want it directly or to buy wheel base extension(mostly links and maybe axle) for few bucks.

As you have that futaba, go with base kit and use servos you like, together with motor and esc, I like trx4 as it has lot of possibilities for upgrading by 3rd party brands, but their electronics is a bit no-go for me. I only tolerate that tiny servo for 2speed as it came in 2speed package. When it dies, some savöx will probably go there. Unfortunately there is no way to buy T-Lock without servos.
