I think the battery tray also acts as a frame brace, something to think about. If you find that the battery is throwing off your right to left weight bias you could add a little weight to the esc side to even it out a little or use a smaller (lighter battery) I've went to using 2200 mah 3s in my crawlers.

The battery tray installs right behind the frame brace that the body mount sits on so I'm not too worried about that. A smaller battery is definitely on the purchase list

I found this guy named "brunoffn" on the traxxas forum and it looks to me like he's got just about as much performance out of the stock bumpers as is possible. Look at this screenshot i took. He did a real nice job with it. He even cut the stinger bar off and i think it looks great!

Wow, that Looks great!!! The bumper and body are blended extremely well, excellent job. I like it a lot.

More to be had though performance wise though, imo.

Remove the shackles and attachment points, then smooth the surface. That way there are no potential hang ups.

Again it’s all about end usage.

That picture gives me hope for the stock bumper.

That’s awesome you’re changes are an improvement!! Excellent job!

Also the home course is awesome allowing you to run out and see changes.

I’m in the Gramps camp regarding batteries. I only have 3s 2200’s and a 1500.

The 1500 gives me around 1.5 hrs of crawling. Which is fine for home.

I’ve been using that a lot due to the fact When I’m done playing, I’m fairly close to 11.4 storage cutoff voltage.

I storage mode the batteries every time I’m done, so smaller capacity puts me closer to that.

That looks great! It almost looks like it came from factory like that!

Nice upgrades you've done so far! It's always fun to tinker and make changes to make our trucks better!

Here is how my Sport bumpers sit currently. They work fairly well, but I would like to see if I could move them in a little bit more.

Front bumper update!

Just cut off the stinger bar amd D shackle mounts. Used some flush cutters to remove it and then just shaved the plastic flat with a olfa knife. (I still don't own a dremel for some crazy reason)

The stinger bar removal was just for looks but the shackle mounts were "hang up" points so they had to go

I think I'll try move the bumper in a bit further later today.
Or maybe I'll leave it? I dunno, removing that stinger bar makes it look less bulky and my desire to move it further in has decreased somewhat...

That’s what I’m talking about!!!!

Looks awesome! Much cleaner!

If I didn’t have the vanquish set coming I’d be breaking out the dremel and scissors.

I can’t wait to hear the test report.

So out on the rocks the most recent bumper mods didnt really make a noticeable difference. To be honest though, it's just nice to know that those shackle mounts are not going to get me stuck anywhere. Went to my in law's today and played on a pile of rocks they have there. They are dairy farmers so there's a few nice spots to crawl around the farm!

I think I like it better without the stinger bar!

If you guys are getting sick of all my posts just let me know

Went back to the drawing board with the shock towers. I cut up an old hobao one i had and added mount holes for the top of the shocks. Drilled some new holes to match the existing holes in the frame rails and put it all together.

I like these better thank my first attempt. They have some nice contours that make them look sweet and they color match my wheels!

And then i got carried away and made a different rear bumper with the same hobao orange. Haha, looks decent i think! Maybe a little too "mad max" but it is even lower profile than my previous one.

Excellent repurpose!!

I dig those shock towers! Really cool that they match your rims.

That color and the green body are a great combo, IMO.

So after making those bumpers and seeing how much better angles I got with them, but also noticing hom much they grabbed the rocks instead of sliding, I went back and tried again with the stock bumpers. I got the front to a point I'm happy with and you've seen that already, but was convinced I could get more outta the rear. Here's where I've ended up. Its all the way in and up and I even had to cut out the top of it to make the light buckets sit as low as possible.

Nice!!!

I’ve been noticing the front bumper does help but also hinders in its current position. Which pretty much is stock.

I’m still waiting on the vanquish bumpers and that super fast amain shipping.

Maintenance day! Bought a tube of white lithium grease and greased EVERYTHING.

I had developed a weird squeal at about 1/4 throttle so i figured it was time for fresh grease and bearing check. Put it all back together, Transmission, portals, diffs, even driveshafts and it still squealed! Took the motor out again and ran it unmounted and there it was :(

Thought my motor was on its way out so I figured it wouldn't hurt to try clean the insides a bit.

Ran it in a glass of clean water for a while and look at the results!

The squeal has disappeared now
