Maintenance day is always good!

How was taking the transmission apart and getting it back together?

I still need to get to that.

The motor picture is neat! I’ve never seen that before.

Have you had the truck in muddy or dusty environments?

Do the insides just air dry or do you run it for a bit to dry it out?

Wiring looks real good to me!

Transmission was a piece of cake. Take out the motor, 3 more screws and the driveshafts and its out. Then its about 10? Screws to open it up. I separated the main 2 sections first, greased and put back together. Then there's a cover that gives access to 3 more gears and i think that only had 3 screws in it. All the screws are the same length so you dont have to worry about getting them mixed up.

I run in dusty conditions a lot. Not much mud but definitely a lot of dirt and dust. Which explains the color of that water. Does anyone tape their motors closed over the vents? I've heard people do that but worry about temps if I did it.

After running in water like that i ran it for a while before i reinstalled it. Also blew air into it with a small compressor while at a quarter throttle for about 2 mins. I guess the beauty of these motors is they're only 20 bucks for a new one so you can abuse it pretty hard and not worry

Built a new retaining wall outta free rocks so naturally it became a new crawling area for me. Its basically a long sidehill section with varying degrees of difficulty and slipperiness. Over the last few days I've been experimenting with the body off and i can say that the sidehill performance is a lot better without it. So i decided to try lower my cg even more through suspension tuning. I flipped my rear homemade towers around and moved them one "mounting" hole forward on the frame. This pulled the shocks up and lowered the ride height significantly.

Only thing is, now my links actually slope upwards from the center out to the axles. Any idea if that's a bad thing? Other than clearance i cant really see why it'd be a drawback but im very new to this crawling game.

In the one photo im lifting the droop out of the shocks and you can see the wheel height difference between the front and rear wheels compared to the sliders. The rears are definitely higher.

Any thoughts on all this?

You’re chasing the same brass ring I was/am.

My rears have been adjusted forward like that longer than they haven’t.

I initially did it to lower the ride height in the rear.

With the stock shocks, I adjusted the preload to level the links out and I wasn’t using much.

I just ran links level. Springs were all whites and I think I was running 15wt in the front and 25 in the rear.

To lower the rear wheels down a touch, I’d add another mount hole below where it’s at now. You’re essentially raising the chassis up.

For the stocks shocks, my rears were down 1 from their current position with the 110’s.

My droop was equal between front and rears with stock shocks.

I wound up dropping my ride height 3/4” doing all of this with the stock shocks.

Rock wall looks great!!!!! That will be a lot of fun!

Going across like that is tough/really tough but I feel you wind up with a better driving skills doing it.

It can also lead you down a rabbit hole performance wise. Ask me how I know

Time to rip my shocks apart again. Lol

Trying to get better performance so I removed the rest of the rack aswell. Added a couple stickers to spice it up too!

I did the same with my bumpers, as up and in as I could go, even trimming the bottom of the light buckets to help fit. I think it helped A LOT with approach and departure angles, over the stock setup.

It definitely shows some wear from when it's hit, but I have a 3d printed trailer I like to pull around from time to time, so I keep it

I haven’t noticed the hitch on the vanquish bumpers causing any real issues.

The material seems to slide a lot better than the traxxas though. That could be a factor.

Flipping the bumpers and a little body trimming will hopefully be done this weekend

I kind of want to buy another trx4 to have as a "show truck" and go all out on the scale details. But since i only own 1 I am more performance driven. If i can't get past a rock section i think i should be able to, it's mods/upgrade time!

I can do donuts now! Took it out for a trail run today and on loose gravel it now does donuts without flipping over! All those adjustments I made to lower the center of gravity have really helped. Obviously the intent wasnt so i could do donuts but it was a an "ah ha!" Moment when i realized what was going on

Yeah its pretty sweet! That impossible ramp is possible im convinced of it. But i haven't made it up yet. Thinking the benefit of an open wheel body will help there, being able to see inside and outside of every wheel should help. Maybe I'll get the jconcepts creep body...maybe. still wanna upgrade my servo first. Creating new challenges is a cool option. The same old lines get boring after a while.
