Default Any luck getting Canyon Trails off RTR Rims?

I've got a spare set of alloy beadlocks laying around. I was going to throw the Canyon Trail tires on them just to have another set to swap to. I tried the baking method this morning. I did 250 degrees for 20 mins. Glue did not budge. At all. Not in the least.

Anyone have any success getting their's off? I was thinking of trying the acetone method next, but figured I'd check here first.

I cooked the wheels in water for about 40 min. Just watch out, they get soaked with the hot water so use a towel when pressing the water out.
After that I could take the tires off. I still had to remove glue from the bead, but with a spoon and some patience it worked.

I used acetone vapor method but it took 5 days of checking and working them once a day. In the end I ripped one of five

Thanks guys. I think i'll try boiling first so I don't have to buy acetone. Acetone was going to be my next move, but boiling water is FREE!

Use a heat gun on low, keep circling the rim, takes about 1min 30 seconds per side of wheel to get the glue to loosen up, works great, did 3 sets like this with no problems.

Cooking works. With mine 10 mins was enough.

I also used a heat gun. Very quick to work, but it's not perfect as removing glue residue so a little more work needed to be done. But I've successfully mounted them to metal beadlocks, so I'm good.

Baking them yielded me zero results. I figured for sure 250 degrees for 20 mins I'd be good. Nada. I also tried the hair dryer (not heat gun) method right after baking them. Just zero give in the glue. I'm going to give boiling a go and see what that gets me. If that doesn't work, I'll try heat gun. I must have gotten the best glued tires Traxxas ever made!

Just for the record, a hair dryer is NOT a heat gun. I also used the heat gun method.

I am aware.....c'mon! That's probably why I put (not heat gun) in parentheses no?

I just used the hair dryer to try and keep the heat in them from coming out of the oven whilst I worked at the bead/glue.

I just have a cheapo Harbor Freight heat gun and I can't believe how much I use it for R/C stuff lol, shrink tubing, tires, bending plastic etc.

No, but a heat gun is an assault hair dryer

Success! Boiled them this morning for about 25 minutes and they popped right off super clean!

GrimmTheTourist - it worked perfectly. There was hardly any glue residue remaining on the tires! Not to mention, it was totally FREE!

With the tire mod I think they are really close to the performance of Hryax in dirt. We don't have any huge rock area's local so I can't say how good they are there

I am classically impatient... I carefully ran an exacto along the edge of the rim gently making several passes while peeling the tire back.
Totally reusable and just a tiny bit of rubber on the (bronco) wheels.
Ironically I'm not using either. *shrug* good spares for... Something?

I tried cooking after 1h in Boiling water i get 1 tire off.
Next try was aceton no luck even after 1h bathing.
After getting a heat gun next try ... and finally after 20 min all 4 tires now off the rims. Heureka
Best method but don't forget to wear gloves .....
