Just did my first run with the new axle mounts, and it is a heck of a lot stronger! Costed me $2 for 2 bolts, 2 nuts, and 2 washers.

Awesome, man. Definitely should last longer than the first version... and a cheap trip to the hardware store is always a win lol.

Oh yeah, I went over one rock with V1 and it instantly fell apart
Yes, cheap and fast trips are good!

I completely forgot to post my thoughts on the shock relocation

I think it’s great, it allows a lot more travel on the more technical stuff. I haven’t noticed a difference in sidehilling or it wanting to tip while going up an incline, so I’d say it’s a win-win!

I may move them back to factory location when I am pulling the trailer because it does squat, causing less clearance in the hitch area.

There are some BIG changes to come to this body if all goes well. Thanks to high plains drifter for the inspiration again! I want to try my hand at this.

Welp, it’s ruined. It looked a lot better in my head than in person. I only have one good thing to say, I like the shade of red on it.

Is this even restorable?

You can always paint over it.

I think it looks okay though I might not be picking up on what you are through the picture. What was your process for the paint?

I know you've already done some weathering but you might try to finish it off with a few washes. I grab color sample from the hardware store and mix to my liking, water it down (water based paint), brush it on or dab it on with a paper towel or sponge. let it dry for 5 minutes or some then dab it off with the sponge or paper towel. these hold up pretty well to water but if you want to seal it in better you can hit it with some flat clear lexan paint.

The trick with weathering is knowing when to stop. Sometimes its better to go with less weathering as you can alway add more but removing it is harder.

My process
1. Washed it with soap and water, then dried it
2. Brushed water on and sprinkled organic sugar on. I did organic because it’s bigger pieces of sugar
3. One coat of white
4. One coat of red.

I then took a wire brush over it to try to make it look better, but it didn’t do much.

Closer up pictures

I guess it’s not too bad, just not what I was wanting.

I did WAY too much over here

I think I made it look better?

I just used paint thinner, wire brush, and the score side of a sponge.

Still working on it, but not too bad.

I missed the bronco body that was earlier in the thread. I thought you just had the jeep body.

So I missed its introduction.

BUT........

That looks awesome!!!!!!!

I love it!!!!

Man talk about unique with the body damage!!!

If I saw that in a 1:1, I’d instantly think that the rig had some stories to tell.

You didn’t miss much, it was just factory black with a blue hood.

Thank you! I really hated it at first but I grabbed a sponge a paint thinner and went crazy.

I just used a heat gun and some needle nose pliers to push it in.

Unfortunately, I have reached my max limit for pics for the month on Tapatalk, so I can’t post any more for a little while. I am making big progress on the Bronco though! Looking more realistic each day I mess with it.

If you do happen to want to post more pics you can use a free image hosting site to upload pics and paste the links here. I use Imgur to host my pictures.

Imgur - Embedding and Posting Photos

I think the sanding and scuffing you did looks great, it brought out some good character.

Thank you for this Imgur link and the compliment!

I also added panel lines, not the straightest, but it’ll do. I may try to take the crooked ones off with paint thinner. I’m going to get some brown/rust color paint, and hopefully some that has a grit to it. Would acrylic brush on paint work?

Messed up the rust a lot, now I have to try and strip all this off. I already have a lot of paint layers, don’t want to add more.

I am doing a lot more than planned to this Bronco, but that’s the fun in it! Hopefully I’ll be able to add pics soon, or I’ll have to find another way. Imgur isn’t working for me for some reason.
