Default Crawling without a drag brake

You Dudes. I'm thinking about trying my sensored brushless castle 1410 3800kv motor in my sport. I dont have a good crawler sensored esc but i do have a traxxas vxl3s laying around which does have a sensor port but no programming capabilities.

Have any of you tried crawling without a drag brake? This is probably a bad idea but i thought id ask anyway.

It's a bad idea. Definitely need it or you'll lose it going down. You'll burn the motor trying to keep reverse to climb down.

What about... and hear me out here...installing a dig on the 3rd channel and therefore having actual brakes instead of drag brakes.

It'll have brakes, just like a slash would. Would just have to hit the brakes often. Probably would be tricky and get frustrating, but I suppose possible.

If you're after a cheap sensored esc with crawler capabilities (100% drag brake, instant forward/reverse) the hobbywing 10bl120 ain't bad for the price. I use one in my son's crawler, been dependable.

I'll look into that! Will it work with a castle motor though? I thought the hobbywing stuff only worked with its own brands..

That's only the AXE models from Hobbywing, those are proprietary tech (mostly because of the connectors).

That won’t work in the TRX-4 in sensored mode. I bought one, couldn’t reverse motor rotation in sensored by programming so I had to upgrade to a MAMBA X

I think you reverse a sensored motor by switching any 2 wires.

That’s only for sensorless. If running sensored it has to be A B C to A B C
