Finally got a crawler project with a TRX-4 Sport kit and Proline SR5 half cab and cage! "thumbsup"
A low battery tray and high clearance skid from Bowhouse RC, along with a chinese one piece motor mount were the main chassis additions.
Both Bowhouse parts were very nice, the 3D printed skid almost looked injection molded. Fit was spot on.

The motor mount fit the stock Traxxas parts fine, but there was interference with the upper link mount area on the BH skid and some adjustment was required.

The reason I went with this motor mount was because it very closely matched the stock plastic parts but is much more robust. It looks clean.

Awesome! Can’t wait to see the body/cage and what you have planned with this!

Holmes Hobbies Puller Pro 1800kv motor with an old HW SCTPro ESC running on 4s lipo will spin the wheels. I have a 12t and 14t pinion for a 45t spur. Trying the 14t first, both options are much lower than the stock 17/39.
Protek 170sbl servo running directly off a CC BEC will turn them.

I added some brass portal covers, mainly because I stumbled across them on ebay for $11 a set. Speaking as someone who has spent many hundreds of hours behind a mill/lathe/or CAD software, I am still amazed at the cost of some things produced in Asia.
The fit and finish of the parts was first rate from the threads to the bearing bores. A little black paint and they look like they came with the truck.

Thanks, it is shaping up nicely. My first "frame rail" build, I like that it is very easy to work on and access everything.

Looks great!!! Good job!!

I only run the 2 piece metal motor mounts as well. Very impressed with how they make the motor so much more stable.

Body fitment looking good. It is moved up as far as possible, just behind the Marlin style RC4WD bumper. I am using the Pro-line cap kit to secure the body/cage. Thought about magnets for the front, maybe next time. I don't mind the round caps on front. At least it is very secure!

I know the wheels are backwards...

Tamiya metallic blue with a metallic gray lower stripe. Need to trim the back mounts down just a bit more to get the cage on the frame.

I flipped the RX box around, and moved it more inboard to work with my wiring a bit better.
Not using the stock bolt on sliders, not a big fan of how they fit. I plan on getting some sheet metal and fabricating some simple bent plates that bolt on the plastic slider and wrap up by the body a bit.

Looks great all beat up!

Love the idea of screw-ons to hold the body instead of body clips. Where did you get them?

EDIT: just looked back and seen they are proline[emoji106]

Changed gearing from 14/45 to 12/45 with improved results.
Still plenty fast, but easier to control the throttle.

I am using an 10+ year old Hobbywing SCT Pro with the fan removed for the ESC.
It is setup with instant reverse, drag brake @ 60%, "punch control" at lowest setting, and 3.25 degrees of timing.
This is with a tiny 2000mAh 4s lipo and an 1800kv Holmes Hobbies Puller Pro motor.

Works quite well for climbing in this light weight TRX, I am very impressed!
