Sounds cool. I was checking my favorite dismantler on eBay (jrc)... pretty slim pickings at the moment.

Can’t wait to see what you do with it.

Re: the anti-traxxass trx4 build

I just finished one, for the most part. $200 for a sport with an ugly beat to hell 4 runner body. Fusion 1800 motor, ECO servo, Spektrum DX3c. Everything else stock, they did regear it so it crawls fine.

I got rid of most of the plastic, I had some aluminum shock mounts. I did a little work on link and shock placement. I won gift certificates from comping at the local hobby shop to pay for the new body. It had some "tyres" on plastic wells. I traded the body that came on it (to the guy who painted it and did the work on it years ago) and some other odds and ends for some SSD rims and trenchers.

I will have to buy some OD but have TRX rear axle with selectable rear locker and the servo for it.

It will be a cralwer for the 6 year old Grand Daughter. I am in it for maybe $225.

Re: the anti-traxxass trx4 build

its running cheap chinese junk electronics a 9imod outrunner and a 120a waterproof esc and i found a nice cheap direct power servo for the steering
the 2 speed and the diff lock both run off the same servo the rear diff is unlocked in high gear and locked in low

its surprisingly stable considering how heavy the top rack is i might end up cutting it off but i like the way it looks

i saved and moded the old bed sides and made them in to pannels i can screw on to the cage the pinch and the shorter wheel base work out perfict and it looks good to but i still like the caged look so it can go ether way lol

i went with some axial krawlers in the extra hard r40 flavor with the weight of the truck and the 60 grit rock out here they work surprisingly well ihave been itchen to use these for something lol and so far in the little bit of testing ive done they work realy well for it

Re: the anti-traxxass trx4 build

took it out for a test run
the front tires were folding over so i trimmed down some closed cell foams
the servo horn stripped out
the 9imod 50kg servo is more like 25kg but im only running 3s the servo is rated for 4s also its not the smoothest servo its kinda a mix of crunchy and twitchy like the gears have sharp edges that need to break in
i need to hook up the programing card there seems to have no drag break so im hoping i can change that in the settings but other than that the motor and esc seem to handle the weight well

with the rack on it is vary topheavy so i added some brass to the axles and cranked up the preload on the shocks and with the foams in the tires im hoping it will help

Re: the anti-traxxass trx4 build

took it out for another test run the strangest thing it side hills ok th3 cog isent bad but the darn thing turtles for no reason it will be fine no body role then flop like it just lays down and roles over like the springs are colapsing or something
im gona play with the suspentionand and see if i cant figure out some kind of sway bar set up

ferp420 06-16-2022 08:03 AM

Re: the anti-traxxass trx4 build

took it out front of the house and snapped a front shaft crawling a 6 inch rock no stress no binding nothing next thing i know the front tire wasent spinnin
i dont even have 1 full run on these shafts and i need to replace them already hopefully that was just a defective shaft i would hate to have to replace axle shafts after every run

ferp420 06-21-2022 08:36 PM

Re: the anti-traxxass trx4 build

tryed to test out the suspention changes and about 2 min in to it pop goes another axle shaft
i hope this dosent become a reacuring problem
my other issue is the mad torque twist nothing like flying a tire 6 inches in the air on relativly flat ground
i figured out a way to add one to.the rear but not the front i might not need one up front anyway so ill.cross that line when i need to

Re: the anti-traxxass trx4 build

It amuses me that you apparently hate Traxxas but want to drive a RC made by them anyway.

i know right mostly cause i wanted to see what all the hype was about

however it cant really be called a trx4 its mostly aftermarket parts but it is traxxaassss bassed

it is posable to put ones feelings aside and give some one a chance even if one dosent like someone for me that was traxxaaassss

at this point i like the rig but not sold on traxxass at most i learned how limited building with that platform is

i am considering going to capra axles on this rig ill make that desicion down the road

I agree the TRX platform is very limiting. But what do you expect to gain from Capra Axles vs TRX4 axles?

capra axles are a bit wider

The TRX are stronger, you could just get some extended hubs or wheels with less backspacing.

I really like the AR45s becasue they turn tighter and I suppose the Capra Axles do to but just like the one piece AR44s they aren't as strong.

I am hoping somebody comes out with a 3 peice AR45p.

thats what i did i would like to reduce the scrub radius though

i would use the pot metal version of the capra axle if i go that route

almost all my axles are potmetal my aluminum ones just sit on the shelf
and my pastic ones i only use on the rear if at all
