Default Random gear switching

I am having some trouble with my transmission shifting from High to Low gear by itself. Sometimes while driving, but most the time when just sitting. Just recently started doing this. To be honest, I haven't had the time to look into it, so It may be an obvious fix. I just wanted to post this up in case someone else has had this happen and may have a fix.

Anybody else ever experience this?

Maybe the steering servo dying, it'll short the BEC out and restart the receiver.
The TRX electronics are a bit short on capabilities, the servo tends to die fast and the XL5 has a weak BEC.

You should see the Rx LED do a bit of dancing when the Rx restarts, try driving some time without the body to see.

Or: my son dropped the transmitter, and of course it landed on the switch, which then had a mind of its own. Maybe water/dirt can make it behave like that too.

I have a new steering servo in it, I don't think it could be that. Still running all stock micro servos. Hopefully it's not the ESC. I'm going to steal one of the diff servos and see if it's the servo or something else.

Also, if it helps, sometimes I'll hit the button to switch gears, and it won't switch right away. I have dropped my remote in sand a few times, maybe that's a cause? Won't hurt to try and tear down and clean out.

There is a micro servo next to the ESC. That's controlling the gear changing. As suggested before, remove the body and do some manual gear shifting to observe it. Mine died after only 1 month of use. If you are still under warranty try to replace it with the metal gears one.

You do realize the XL5 has only 1A BEC and is already overloaded with the stock components?

May have killed the switch, yes.

No, I didn't know that LOL.

I went for about an hour run yesterday without a body and the transmission didn't switch gears at all by itself. I even went to the extent of letting it sit for about 10 mins and nothing. No "dancing" was going on, everything was working fine.

A very, very delayed update.

It hasn’t randomly switched gears since, although the switch is super delayed sometimes. Oh well, I can deal with it. I’m just glad it’s not randomly switching while driving
