| Our TRX4's, with a few mods planned.
New to the crawling scene so figured I'd show our two and post future modifications here. Sport and G500'd bodied snap-on ed. Made the fake plastic winch look a bit better for a few quid. Few more changes to the G500, roof lamps, decals, and grill mod. I'm currently on with doing some quite serious body changes, I'll post pics when I'm done. I do also have some electrics things to sort when I get round to it, namely 36kg servo, uprated BEC etc. |

Made some wheel weights for crawling stability. Free mod because I used some lead bar I had. Wheel weight before and after. Extra set of wheels/tyres (on the left) for when I'm not playing on the rocky cliffs and don't need the heavier wheels. |

I've been doing a few things, such as: cutting out solid panels to add clean lexan windows, fitting black plastic wheel arches, fitting diamond plate aluminium treadplate, fitting bulbs in the roof lamps, adding the Savox servo with metal horn and external BEC, trimming front plastic for wheel clearance under full lock compression, making front and rear bumpers out of aluminium sheet and fitting modified rear ladder. I've still got a few more things to add/alter later this week. I decided to give the G500 a more rugged look, even more so once we can get outside and get it dirty and bashed about! Went for the bolted in plexiglass look with tiny (m1.2/1.4/1.6) stainless bolts and rivet heads. |

That looks really cool! I like the bolted in plexiglass look! The diamond plate accents are sweet! |

How did you get the wheels to fit over the portal cover with those wheel weight inside? I would have that they would have gotten in the way.

Do all of the G500s bodies sit that high? Seems to be pretty tall compared to the other versions.

No room for portal brass weights of course but I don't intend to fit any on this.

Not many of these snap-on trx4's seem to be about in the UK really, I've seen a few though but all with the standard bodies.

Swapped the motor cog to a lower 9T. Also fitted cooling fans to the motor and ESC. I'll only use them in the middle of summer when its blazing hot, peace of mind that things are been helped to keep cool. Contacted Fastrax to confirm the voltage range of the two fans on the motor, after no reply (ignorant!) I searched online and managed to find the manufacturers spec sheet in Chinese/Japanese. Translated it and the range seems to be 3.5v-7v so I figured it would be ok at 7.4v when fully charged. Ran them for 30mins and all good. Tidied up the wiring after soldering on some jst plugs. They turn on/off via the ESC plus I added a master switch with space for another switch if needed in the future. The ESC kit handily came with a slim lever so I can turn on the rig from below. Added a spare wheel to the roof. Made it out of polystyrene so it weighs next to nothing. I used this plastic waste... ...to make a bolted together roof rack extension... ...and bolted it through the roof here! The rack is almost finished but you get the idea. |

Make sure you secure those scale bits really well. When I was brand new to this hobby I thought I’d add a bunch of things to my rig and it all went flying off the first rollover. Re-engineered it and it lasted about 5 more rollovers, then gave up and decided I like rollovers more than scale bits haha.

If I had my welder here I'd have made a custom rack. Next time I do one I think I'll source some small diameter copper rod and solder it. Could make nudge bars and all sorts that way.

So the cheap alloy bead lock rings (£8 delivered) that came from China didn't fit the intended wheels, wrong shape to grip onto the tyres beading. So instead I decided to change the look of the Traxxas wheels with them, I wasn't a big fan of the red plastic ones anyway. Took a bit of messing about but I'm quite happy with the end result. |
