Default The Wild Lady..... Mercedes G500 Project

It's time for the 2nd TRX-4 in the house. This one goes to my daughter, so it had to be a very special project

I wanted to keep a short wheelbase for this one, but keep the large side areas for creative purposes. As much as I'd love to get the Chassis Kit again and built it, I decided to go with the Mercedes G500 RTR on this one. None of the stock colors would fit this project, so the blue body is going for sale and I bought a clear one.

The main color will be Tamiya PS40 (Transluscent Pink), backed with Tamiya PS5 (Black)

Not sure if you are aware but If you use a silver backing on the pink it will make it pop. The black on the other hand deepens the color.

After applying multiple layers of this transluscent pink, I realized that black is not the way to go as a backing color. I'll search some silver down at the LHS or perhaps go with white if can't get silver?

White should work. Test on a scrap piece.

Here a pink G500 looks good I’m sure with some scale details with would look awesome. What catches my eye is the yellow Unimog body on Trx6. Which will inspire me for future project.

I think this transluscent pink will look much darker when finished. Unimog is definitely in my ''to do'' list at some point. Maybe a hard body fire truck.

I finished painting the body today. What a wicked color this transluscent pink is

Depending on the lighting conditions and the angle you look at it, it changes. Goes from deep magenta, to cherry and roof tile red. I probably went a bit heavy with it and came out darker than I expected, so I backed it up with white and then applied black.

I also did the fenders and lower side part black. I have plans for those parts, in the coming days.

And of course, no little girls rig would be complete without some glitter on it

Tomorrow I'll do the plastic bits on the body. There's a bag with a ton of screws to mount them, so didn't even bothered opening it today. I'll get some more photos under the sunlight too.

Got all the plastics mounted and it really came together.

Not a great fan of the chrome bits. I don't think they compliment this rig at all.

I got the traxxas light kit and will fit it later. I know it's on the expensive side, but after messing around with different lights for my other rig, I think the plug n play option and the amount of light they produce, is worth the trouble.

Looks good. I think the chrome fits, it's a Mercedes after all. Easy enough to black out if they bug you that much though.

Kind of has a mall crawler vibe. A wheel/tire swap would cure that

I have plans for these chrome parts

Speaking of wheels, these tires don't seem to grab as well as the CTs. We did a little test in our homemade test track and it couldn't climb where the much heavier D110 do it effortlessly.

What the hell? Did I get a bad batch of tires or are they all like that?

Got the light kit installed. It took much longer than I expected, but it's nice and tidy. The lights are crazy strong for 3V.

The annoying chrome on the side steps is gone.

Heck, I'm a grown man and I think that looks awesome. Maybe not quite Mercedes, but still awesome combined with the choice of paint.

People don't seem to prefer this body, and honestly I don't understand why. In my eyes it has great potential for customization and if you put your mind to it, I think it can look great and very unique.

I like the body, like the 6x6 body even more. It's the wheel/tire combo I don't like. I hate the Hotwheels/mall crawler look

That looks great! Great body, it's definitely something different, and Traxxas did a good job on it. Agree 100% on the tires and wheels - they look more suited to high speed 2nd gear running.

I see what you mean about the wheels. I have a set of Injora beadlocks that I use in my other rig to try out. They are 1.9 however and I think that some 2.2 would be best for this body.

I really like how the color came out. It has some nice depth from up close BUT.... the little one doesn't like it because it's not pink enough

She has everything planned for this rig, so who am I to say differently? It's her rig after all. So back to the paintshop we go. I ordered another clear body and this time we'll go with Tamiya PS29 Fluorescent Pink, backed with PS41 Bright Silver. Hopefully that will give the bright look she's after. I showed her the video JCM5 posted earlier on and she loved that Pink G500

I don't mind though, because I have some ideas to modify this body heavily and didn't want to mess her rig if they don't work out.

So I'll concentrate on tweaking the chassis, until everything gets here.
