Can I run a 4S in TRX4 or is that a bad idea? The trx4 is rated for a 2 or 3s battery, but what will happen if you rub a 4s? Will the motor burn up and the esc stop working? Mine has an upgraded brushed motor but everything else is stock. I'd love to have a but more top end but I'm guessing that's not possible without totally revamping my whole setup... |
Re: Can I run a 4S in TRX4 or is that a bad idea? You will smoke the ESC and possible other electrical components (receiver, servos, led…) the instant you turn it on. There are a few surface ESCs that’s are capable of what you want to do. Use a reputable brand. It’s like arguing over Ford, Chevy, Dodge on what’s better… pick one and run it. Something to look for there are a few that run both brush and brushless if you wanted to change motors later. |
Re: Can I run a 4S in TRX4 or is that a bad idea? If you’re just looking for a slightly higher top speed, why not try some different gearing options? Just keep an eye on motor/esc temps. If you’re not satisfied with that, then you’ll likely need to invest in a brushless system. MC |
Re: Can I run a 4S in TRX4 or is that a bad idea? GO FOR IT GET IT ON VIDEO lol you would most likely burn up the esc but the stock esc sucks anyway i couldent think of a better fait for a traxass esc basicly if it says traxxassssss on it get rid of it as fast as you can your servos and everything else would.be fine as they dont ever see full pack voltage anyway they usualy only get between 5 and 6 volts from the bec and pack voltage wont affect that at all however if they say traxxass on them there not long for this world anyway so plan on replacing those to asap |
Re: Can I run a 4S in TRX4 or is that a bad idea? I do not believe the XL5 will turn on with a 4S pack connected to it. |

Since you have a new motor able to handle 4S you'll just need to replace the ESC also. The new ESC must not only be able to handle a 4S feed but also have a BEC capable of providing at least 1A @ 6.0V (same as the stock ESC). |
Re: Can I run a 4S in TRX4 or is that a bad idea? Using a stock XL5HV and Titan 550? No. There are options to use 4s, one of mine runs 4 or 6s using a Holmes Hobbies BRXL and a Trailmaster Sport 21t 550. Another option is to use something like a Castle Mamba X and Castle Slate motor, both 4s ready. But using the stock Traxxas electronics, no sadly. Another option as said is to play with gearing, a pinion swap could give you a little extra speed, just be wary of extra heat! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Can I run a 4S in TRX4 or is that a bad idea? Cheapest option for 4s brushed is a Hobbywing 880. Doesn't come with a program card or programming button, auto calibrating, BEC a bit weaker compared to 1080. Anyway, I don't think it's worth it vs a good 3s setup. |
Re: Can I run a 4S in TRX4 or is that a bad idea? The stock motor was originally used in the E-revo on 4s, so it should be fine. Not away of any budget friendly 4s escs? |

I picked up one of the latter on Amazon to see what kind of trouble I can get away with paired to a HH Trailmaster Sport 550 21t, on 4S. |
Re: Can I run a 4S in TRX4 or is that a bad idea? the new rain 480a is 4s capable for around $12-18 theres no programing just a 3po switch for forward only farward with breaks and reverse or forward reverse with 100% drag break the simplest and most basic esc ive found that works good and are vary reliable i must have 20 of these there just so cheap |

I'd be very cautious running it with the TRX-4 in high gear. A TRX-4 with added weight to lower the COG has more friction in the driveline than the E-revo. With crawling gearing it should be fine. |
