| Traxxas TRX4m 1/18 Scale Crawler
Looks like the TRX4 is going 1/18 scale. I have seen some pictures but no real details.

Interesting. I wondered how long it would take Traxxas to make these little guys!

The Losi Micro crawler has made me stay away from the 1/24 scene, but maybe I'll get in the the 1/18 scale with the traxxas. The info posted on their site looks pretty good!

Watching the Traxxas video on YouTube for this truck makes it look closer to a 1/24th scale than it does to a 1/18th. It fits in the roof rack of the TRX4 Defender.....seems too smal to be a 1/18th

So the little guy is actually more scale. If the big Traxxas Defender were scaled up from 1/10, the resulting vehicle would be ridiculous. It would be over 8 feet wide and almost 10 feet tall. | |

^---this I know its been talked about elsewhere on here but trucks sold as 1\10th scale are rarely actually 1\10. The one that really got me was the tamiya highlift hilux and F350. I have had both in RC and 1:1 and like I'm sure everyone already knows a 79-81 toyota 4x4 is nowhere near the size of a F350 but if you bought 1 and thought it was 1\10 then get the other and see the difference in scale its kinda frustrating if you are trying to pair them up. ( F350 tow vehicle and toyota mud truck on trailer or something) Back to the TRX4m I think its a good looking little truck and a good entry into the class, seems traxxas was holding back for awhile and letting others do the groundwork before coming out with something they feel can compete. Much like what they did with the TRX4 really, they stayed out of the crawler scene for a long time until I guess they felt the money was there to jump in. Will be neat to see what people make out of them and with them offering axle assemblies separate right from the beginning I'm guessing you will see a TRX6m soon enough, either from them direct or a custom build of one. |

Scale in the RC world is an "ish", you just have to accept that. I think the only RC maker that really nails it is Tamiya, but not 100% of the time. With this, I will likely get a TRX4m, and see what the little guy can do. I was a big fan of the Losi MRC, and had a fun time comp crawling with it. |

| Re: Traxxas TRX4m 1/18 Scale Crawler I will likely snatch one up for my daughter once she gets bored with my SCX24. I do have a pretty moderately modified Losi Micro Trail Trekker, too, if she wants a little more "umph". Originally built it for my now 13 yr old son but he's recently graduated to a TRX4. He of course has an SCX24, too. We like small scale in my house |

This might finally be the rig that fits some of the awesome hard bodies that are out there but never had a good platform to put them on. like the WPL toyota bodies

It looks like some hobby shop videos are starting to show up on youtube. Overall, this looks like it could be really good. I have no affiliation with this guy's channel, but there's a decent size comparison with the SCX24 at about the 5:11 mark. I think anyone who's used a Traxxas servo may get a chuckle at the presenter's remarks about folks having a hard time breaking the stock servo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oOkJQczdWw A little more from Harley Designs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SM5Yv9FwiXo Last edited by DirtMerchant; 11-02-2022 at 12:10 PM. |

RC scales have traditionally been determined more by the electronics, particularly motors, than anything relating to their actual size, and that's still kind of how it's done. With rare exception, 1/10 scale RCs typically use 540 or 36mm motors. 1/8 scale have typically used 40mm motors. 1/12 down through 1/18 scale usually used 390 or 28mm motors, and so forth. I think classifying size based on the chassis is still a better idea than going with actual body scale because that just turns into a mess. 350TacoZilla's Hilux/F350 comparision is a perfect example. One chassis isn't 2 different scales just because you swapped bodies. Of course, with all that, the new TRX4m still doesn't fit the conventional 1/18 classification either because it's using a 180 motor, and seems to be a bit smaller than what we typically associate with 1/18 scale. Personally I think they could have just called it 1/24 and not only saved everybody a bunch of confusion, but likely made it eligible for a lot of the mini crawl comps that are showing up around the country.

I stopped into my LHS yesterday to check out these new rigs. They got in one of each of the Defender and Bronco along with all of the upgrades and accessories that are available for them. I gotta say, I’m impressed with them. I like that they are little bit bigger than the 1/24’s. These TRX4-m’s are built well and look great in person. Pre-ordered a Blue Bronco and can’t wait to pick it up next Friday. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
