"King Of The Compound" History of the "OG" R/C Endurance Rock Race It all started on a sunny spring morning back in May of 2009 at the infamous "Axlsnapr's Compound". The concept was launched with the first KOTC, to run an endurance themed R/C rock race, much like the 1:1 guys. In that first race rigs covered nearly 1 3/4 miles of rocks and desert. There was a 70% attrition rate for the rigs (just like the big boys). The event was also covered in a 3 page article in XRC Magazine in summer of 2009. The top finishers completed the race in just under 1 hour of full throttle action mixed with a little racer's luck! KOTC II was in the summer of 2011. KOTC II proved to be a true test of both strategy and rig prep. This event had rigs covering almost 3 miles of brutal rocks, ruts, jumps, WFO desert, a short course track, and ravines. This race seen a completion rate of only about 50% of starting rigs. Most drivers literally drove the wheels off there rigs. The drivers that stayed out of traffic, and had the least breakdowns came out on top. Endurance R/C events take special thought processes by the drivers to keep their rigs together til the end. Because we all know you "Can't win a race unless you finish it!"..... Hope to see everyone at KOTC III(coming soon). Here is a little media from those early KOTC/U4RC events. Them Bergs were fast, but not very realistic. That's why they were outlawed when the rules got written for the 2nd KOTC. |
