Default U4RC Motor Talk

How about making this a sticky? I'm sure this will be a hot topic as U4RC evolves.

Definitely want to get into this U4RC stuff and had a question about the 1.9 trail/comp class. I want to run a brushed motor but not sure between a 27 or 35. I know a lot of people run brushless but thats not an option for me at the moment. ANy help would be appreciated! Can't wait to check out the Heritage Park course.

It is a race. I'd try the 27 and watch the temps. I ran a 35 in 1.9 trail last season, it was slow on 3s.

Yup, I think 35 is a bit on the slow side...you might be able to gear it for speed but then you low end won't be there when you need it.

here at the SoCal races the 1.9 comp guys are running a lot of 13.5t and 10.5t motors. As long as they are sensored they do great in the rocks and crawl sections. I run a 3150kv myself. Some 1.9 trail guys are using high speed motors also now...the Velinion I know is out there in one of the top trucks here. the 2.2 classes make lots of use of the roc412 and the pro4 motors both 3300 and 4000kv.

Awesome thanks for the opinion guys. No brushless in my future, a bit costly for me. I didn't mention I'd be running 3s or 4s so I'd imagine either 27/35on 4s would be a rocket.

This type of racing builds heat pretty quick. Both the motor and esc get hot, even with super efficient brushless power. You may want to do some testing ahead of time. We typically run 8 or 10 minute mains. Also consider the ambient temperature that day.

I have been running this Holmes TrailMaster BL 540 3100kv in this Szczerba's 2014 2.2 #744 Wraith geared 11/54 on 3S. Rig is 8.4lbs RTR. Ran 3 races, each about 4:30 -5:30 minute race times, with no issues on heat. Air temps were in 50's.

Thanks for the heads up, hard to test without either motor though, trying to buy one instead of two lol.

Mine is a Turnigy motor. Cheap, brushless and sensored. I think it was under $35 and about the same for the esc. Have not had any issues from either.

1.9 trail and 1.9 comp are two very different animals. A 1.9 trail class rig really can't use much more power than what a 27t brushed or a 17.5 sensored brushless motor puts out. A good 1.9 comp class rig can handle a 13.5, even on 3s.

Having said that, less is more unless you are very confident in your throttle control skills

Thanks
