Question Shocks? TLR 22SCT vs Gmade Aeration?

looking at the 4" versions of each.(TLR rears, and gmade 103)
both are aluminum and have the bleeder screw.
both have cartriage style seals.

anyone ever owned both? how do they compare size and performance wise? in pics the TLRs look like they might be larger diameter? i found the spring and body diameter listed for one, but could not find those specs on the other.

or has anyone used either? what were your thoughts?

Depends on what your looking for in handling vs weight etc.
I run Traxxas big bores with stock Traxxas pistons, Trinity 10wt oil
and Losi White springs and I absolutely love the way it handles but
guys that I'm running with are running 4" Losi Crawler shocks, Proline Slash
shocks. Traxxas BB ect.
I did buy and try the GMade 100mm, the XD PB and they worked ok until I cart wheeled down a hill, they didnt hold up very well!lol But I liked them while they lasted!

honestly if im going to not do scale SCX/ skinny Kings, then I may as well go for pure performance.
i assume any aluminum standard bore/big bore will weight close to the same.

what failed on the Gmades? how many cartwheels and how big was the hill lol?

great info! thanks!
keep it coming

I just built a set of the gmade XDs over the weekend, Best shocks I've ever built.

-butter smooth
-even rebound on all 4
-really nice o-ring cartridge
-great instructions
-easy to assemble

Other shocks I've built include, traxxas big bores, proline slash power strokes, axial xr and scx, rc4wd shocks, Tamiya kit shocks ect...

I almost got the Aeration shocks but the composite cap steered me the other way, I would rather tune shocks with oil and piston position, rather than a screw anyway.

great review. now that's tech!

great catch on the cap. I hadn't picked up on that, your right the diaphragm version appears to have a alumimum cap.
ive never owned a bleeder shock either, thought it might be cool to help tune. gimic may not be worth a loss in durability though.
good catch thanks!

how snug/good seal did you think the cartraige/orings felt on the gmades? I watch build videos on the gmades, and the TLRs, and the gmades looked like the cartraige just slid in easily with no compression of the orings (for a good seal)
price sure is a lot better. I also like how all the Gmade springs are black. much more scale than white, orange etc etc springs.

They make a great seal, very smooth, flawless feel. I like the cartridge design. The instructions show 2 different ways to fill with oil, low compression or high compression, basically the amount of rebound. I chose the low compression, filled the shocks all the way up, got all the air bubbles out, set the bladder into the topped off oil, screwed the cap on and they bleed out the hole on the cap and all have even rebound. Good rebound=good seal in my mind. You can't beat the price for how great they are. I really like my new short course kings and they are scale, I've put them through there paces and they've given me no problems but, less tuning options like springs, pistons and we'll my above statement still stands, the XD's are the best shocks I've built.

i just had some gmade piggy backs in hand and they felt AMAZING! The sizes weren't quite right for my rig so i sold em to a buddy for his sct, but the look and feel as well as tunability was VERY nice on the gmades. The only question i had on em is how well they hold up or hold the setting that you do last on the set screw (although a drop of liquid eletrical tape might lock it in place)

Let us know how they work! I'm debating what to put on my 1.9 ultra 4....have icons which work great on my scalers just not sure they are up for the task of a Ultra 4. I have a set of 93mm aerations on my 1.9 Brute and they work wonders.

I wish you better luck then I.
I have four DX93 piggy backs that leak so bad I'm ready to dump them.
I was told traxxas blue O rings are a bit bigger, I'm going to give them a try since the shocks work great, just have to ad oil a couple times a day.
Tried green slim, it help a bit, but wasnt long before the puddles started showing up again.
