Axle recommendations So this may have been asked...but I can't find it through google or the amazing search engine here at RCC. I am building a 1.9 ultra 4...very slowly... Currently it is mocked up on fancy VP SCX10 Currie axles. From my experience watching others out on the trail, alloy axles on a trail style rig tend to get hung up a bit more than plastic which leads me to believe plastic is preferred in the trail/G6 realm. However, in the ultra 4 realm...it's not really slow speed...it's b@ll$ to the wall get there as fast as you can driving. Long story long...would you experienced U4 drivers say run the curries for their durability? Or slap some beef tubes for durability in some plastic axles, slide over rocks nicer and call it a day? Re: Axle recommendations Plastic and call it a day. I do not care how fast or slow,,, friction is friction and it slows you down But for scale looks nothing beats VP |
Re: Axle recommendations curries dont break in half lol  |
Re: Axle recommendations Learn to drive on plastic, toughen it up as you need.....IMO. SYSTEM: K.I.S.S. |
Re: Axle recommendations Been driving scalers and trail rigs for nearly 7 years. Guess what it comes down to is what will fit the build. I drive as best i can to avoid hitting the pumpkin. Sent from my LGLS990 using Tapatalk |
Re: Axle recommendations I prefer the way plastic axles slide. I use beef tubes and the D'lux U4 truss, and the only way this axle takes damage is when the bottom eventually wears through, lol! I also like the axle housings that D'lux modifies with the larger pinion bearing. |
Re: Axle recommendations Thanks Jon for the suggestion. Only issue is I'm referring to scx10 width axles. I know he does the pinion mod but no fancy carbon truss for the scx10 axle...too narrow. |
Re: Axle recommendations Ah, I see. I have seen some front axle battery tray / servo mounts that have screws down into the axle, out at the ends. They may look out of place on a u4, but perhaps it could be modified? Either way, beef tubes and plastic is my preference. I end up breaking them right out at the end, usually, where the holes are, unfortunately. |
