Hey folks. I'm pretty new to the rc scene. Bought a 1/18 crawler because a buddy got one and have had a blast crawling and modding. Didn't take long to start looking around at what else was out there and found rock racing, which looks like tons of fun. I'd like to build a rig to play around and maybe get into some racing too. At my local hobby shop they had an R1 and I thought it was a super cool looking rig. I know it's built as a crawler, but does the forum think it could be built into a competitive rock racer? And if so, what class/classes would it fit into? Or am I better off getting an Axial like the rest of the herd? Thanks for any info, and looking forward to having some fun.

I honestly don't know enough about the G1 to steer towards that choice as a rock racer. Out of all honesty, in the long run an Axial based rig such as a Bomber or Yeti are your best choices. They have much bigger aftermarket support and the platforms are designed specifically for rock racing and the suspension geometry is near perfect. New kits are affordable, but even used ones are a great option. ![]() |
