Bent up some rear links tonight. They're about 2" too long. 13-1/4" wheel base as pictured. I was thinking about starting around 10-1/4" and trying it out, go shorter if needed. I'll final cut these when I have two axles to work with, just guessing at this point. I'm considering the common link point seen here, no lower chassis or skid plate. I have two pivot balls between the rear links and the chassis. Considering moving the front links inside too. Thanks to Erik for posting that very helpful link. Great info there for all considering this , and tells me this build is still on track. |

Word from home is my axles have arrived. Looking forward to getting back this weekend and putting this thing together as a whole. With that in mind, I'm two tires short of a set. Cut up another pair, and got them "tacked" together. I'll finish gluing them tomorrow night. |

Got the other tires glued up tonight. Couldn't help myself, and decided to pose the rig. Forgive the terrible pictures, and all the shims holding it together. The rear links are much too long, I cheated the front tires back to give a 10-3/4" wheel base. For my own satisfaction, I just wanted to see an approximation of my vision. I'm so excited to piece this together for real when I have the remaining parts. |

I'm excited too Troy. I have a sneak peek into your plan, but only a peek. So many ways your build could develop. No rules equals crazy ideas and unseen moves. Check your mailbox every hour until the parts get there. |

Hell yeah! I have a general idea.. But nothing solid... Yet! I found a custom sporty chassis(kinda similar to the one your using for mach up) in a misc parts bin earlier tonight and some ti VP links off a bully chassis.. It might start off a little long legged, like yours.. Lol.. Maybe bolted up to a mini chassis, it could all work to the right length.. Hmmmm |

Got the rear tubes cut down for the hubs. I still need to make a servo plate and cut the notch for the servo. Thinking about cutting the lower section of the chassis away to run the links something like this. Wheelbase is about 11" now. Hopefully all this steering will help get this big mini through a 12" gate. Guess we'll see. Long way to go before I know how it's going to work. |

I can't wait to see what you're doing. This is a ton of fun, but my head hurts doing all the thinking myself. Quote:

Didn't get much done today. Managed to make some upper link mounts. Got some adjustability built in for tuning, or if they're just WAY off....lol Mounts move forward and back. And they're reversible, should give a lot of options. |

Made up some upper links yesterday....I can finally pick the rig up without crap flopping around. The geometry is a mess, but the links should all be getting cut shorter, so I don't think it was a waste. I needed to get something solid together, once again, just to help move forward. |

Rig is looking awesome! Especially the crazy links. Love all the swoopy bends up and over the axles/motors. What are you using for links? 4-40 all thread with 3/16" alu tube over it?

Aluminium tubing, 3/16"x .049" for links. Sourced locally at either the hobby shop, or local hardware store, depending what's convenient. Just the right inside diameter to tap 3mm. Then Traxxas studs and ends. All this time, I've only bent two links, on a really bad fall. Never on the mini. 3/16"x .035" for spacers. Tubing cutter for clean cuts, 3mm fits perfectly. Maybe not the cats pajamas for some, but for a builder/mistake maker like me, it's perfect. | |
