Looking great Erik. Regarding the rubber bands, here's an idea... Toss the bands. Buy some braided fishing line and wrap it around plate wheel just like the rubber bands. Leave 1mm spacing between rounds. Apply a bead of adhesive (goop, CA, hot glue etc) across each stand-offs to hold the perpendicular winds of line in place. The line is kevlar, won't break and won't stretch. The tire rebound will be all in the foams, not in the bands and foams. Much lighter too. J |

Thanks! I will give it a shot. You can buy braided line just about anywhere or is it a specialty thing? Walmart? |

Thanks mang! For some reason fiber glass makes me think of a project that I did in elementary. We did something like dip cheese cloth in some sort of glue mixture and made ghosts out of them. |

Huh, guess it was just starch. Spooky Floating Cheesecloth Ghost - One Good Thing by Jillee I cant remember how strong it was and if it would suffice in this area. Maybe something better than starch would help too? |

Unless you slotted the other side of the hood, the reverse spring mod isn't gonna work very well with those hoods, as they don't extend far enough down for brush wear. Spring tension between the sides is probably fairly different without measuring them... Later EddieO |

Thanks guys! Quote:
Springs are obviously different but feel pretty similar. I was going to run it and adjust later if it were a problem. What problems will I notice if the springs were drastically different side to side?

Depends on which side was weaker, ideally it would be the same orientation for both motors. Stronger on negative would make brush wear more even, stronger on positive should give it more punch. Maybe Eddie can confirm my notions, as I don't have much experience with non balanced springs. I tried it and couldn't feel a difference, but I'm sure a dyno would pick up a smidge of change. For what you are doing it probably won't be noticeable, but it would at least be useful to ensure the polarity of the motors is the same for the spring styles. |

In racing, we never used stiffer on the negative....was always worse for everything...though I am sure some oval weirdo claimed it was the hot setup back in the day. In a crawler motor, my only concern would be how it affected braking performance along with probably creating uneven wear patterns on the comm. Those black springs are not very common, as they were not trinity made....and made in very limited amounts, so matching a spring to them isn't very easy...you may be able to tweak the other spring to match if you had a fiddlestick to measure them... so more than likely, the reverse springs should be on the negative side.

If they are less stiff, then yeah I would put them on the negative... Trinity put them on the + side though and the stiffest reverse spring was the purple....when voltage got nutty in racing, we used stiff springs on everything...I found these (along with one stiffer) from Orion, they had sat unsold for years cause nobody wanted them that stiff when they came out. They clearanced them all, so I bought everything they had....and then spent every race getting hounded for some... Later EddieO |

I didnt have time to deal with the tire/wheel foam issue so I just did the rubber band thing to the front tires as well. Sorry to disappoint, I just really want to have this thing with me this weekend so I can drive it. Leaving for AZ in 45min, so just in time. Panels are all done (simple as can be and no side panels needed, HA!), electronics are all wired up and I even drove this thing around the shop for 2 min to make sure it moves. After initially driving it, my first reaction was "Wow! This thing feels like a Super Mini!". That probably does not make sense but what I mean is that during the build, I had the feeling that the spirit of the car was lost since it was becoming a 2.2 with rear steer. When driving it, it does not feel that way though. It really feels like I am driving an extended wheelbase 1.9 with rear steer, which is more than awesome since that is what was in my head when thinking up the class in the first place. Sure, its still different than I ever had in my head, but its cool so far none the less. Things that still need to be done are rear weights, tire/foam issue and I broke a screw off in my hub. Here are some pics of how its going to AZ. Hard to tell, but this is looking at it from the front. |

I could be wrong but I dont think KJ is doing the unlimited class? Pretty sure this does not fit into "trail". I will work on some for sure. Not sure it will happen this weekend though.
