Hittman's Super Mini Build

I figured I would finally start a thread on this. I have been building one pretty much since Mr.Dlux started his, just havnt posted anything. I think this idea for an unlimited class is awesome. It's cool because almost everyone's rig is different. There are a mutitude of axles/chassis/wheel and tire combos/ect that can be combine to create a unique rig. This is the ultimate builders class.

In Erik's thread he had mentioned that losi axles would be about the right width for the mini super.. After some looking I came across a set of losi axles with an old moa conversion on them. Very minimal run time, pretty decent setup.
Of course you have to have steering front and rear.. It's a builders class why wouldn't you? A while back I picked up a losi front axle that had the XR mod done. That went up front, stock losi steering axle out back.

Chassis.. Hmm what to choose? Being that I am a DravTech team driver, and I had a spare Sudu Pro chassis sitting around, I figured that was a great choice"thumbsup" Out came the magic markers, trimmed the chassis down to what "looked right".

For the most part, this rig was built with parts that I had. Very minimal amount of money was spent to build this rig. Which is pretty cool I think. Here's some specs on the rig:

Axles
Losi axles
-Moa conversion
-XR steering and HD gears up front
-Stock losi steering and stock gears out back
RcBros steering arms
Rcbros knuckle weights (2.8oz per side.. It looked right:ror:)

Chassis/Suspension
DravTech Sudu Pro (cut down)
Mix and match links. I bent the lowers out of 3/16 Ti. Need to make some cf uppers to replace the current mismatch
Big bore shocks 3.5 w/cap mod(30wt oil, pink mini t's front and rear, Dlux no preload cups)

Tires/Wheels
Dlux g10 wheels (blue of course"thumbsup")
RC4WD Bully comp tires (narrowed to pizza cutters)
CI foam (special combo for the narrow tires)

Electronics
Futaba Bls157's front and rear.. Why not have a pair of $210, 513oz servos on this thing?:lmao:
Holmes 400pullers 33t (in the mail)
Castle sidewinder micro esc's
Castle bec X2
Futaba rx

Re: Hittman's Super Mini Build

Here is a list of everything I have bought for this rig:

Losi axles w/Moa setup $85
Holmes 400 Pullers $~230
Bully tires $50
CI Foams $28

Total $393

Yeah, pretty minimal to have a Moa rig w/ 4WS. I was waiting on foams, now I am waiting on motors. I can't wait to have this rig running.

I'll get some pics up hopefully over the next couple days."thumbsup"

It is was a quick and easy way to try out what height and width I wanted without cutting up a full set of Voodoos.. Not knowing how wide I needed them to be or how much I wanted to reduce them.

I didn't say they were staying on this rig forever.. I didn't say they were replacing the Voodoo pin tire on this or any of my rigs. I just wanted something I could mount up, without having to cut in every angle and hope I made them the right size.

So yes, really.

:lmao::lmao: don't get your skinny jeans in a twist. Just teasing. Those tires are not cheap from what I saw to be using them as a test.

Cant wait to see some real pictures.

Thanks for breaking down the cost too. I think we are all in agreement that this class is really cool for multiple reasons. One of them being that it can be done with junk or spare parts.

It was a super fun rig to build. Actually went together very smoothly. I was thinking it would be difficult to achieve the width/clearances needed, but these losi axles made it easy.

What motor and axle pinion combo are you running. I'm getting parts together to make a rig based on the same axle setup.

I am running a 16t 5mm pinion on the axles, 12t pinion on the motors. The wheel speed is actually quite surprising. Not sure of torque yet. Going for the maiden run on the rocks tomorrow. I'll for sure get some pics.. Maybe some video"thumbsup"

Re: Hittman's Super Mini Build

So here is what I found from running this rig..

1. This is NOT a pro rig! For my courses all I did was narrow up the pro gates we were running.. And changed a few of the tall ledges, due to the shorter wheel base of this rig.

2. I need to adjust my expectations BIG time! The problem was I was going out, expecting this rig to do (not exactly, but close) what my pro rig could do. The much narrower trackwidth totally changes the game. As well as the shorter wheelbase.

After the first pack I was honestly disappointed. But after some thinking, We will be running these on the same courses as the Mini Crawlers. A mini course is NOTHING like a pro course.. the breakovers, sidehills, verticals, downhills.. everything is different! I have never setup or ran official mini courses. So I couldn't set up anything that resembled one.

In the video, you can see on gate 3, I really struggle with that vertical.. That vertical wouldn't exist on a mini course. So what I am thinking is once this rig is on the correct course, it should do a lot better?

3. These RC4WD Bully tires are NOT impressive. They will be getting changed out very shortly. But, they did show me what I wanted to know. As far as the width goes, they are perfect. But, height could honestly be shorter. Going back to running these rigs on mini courses, Having a shorter tire on this rig, would definitely help with the COG. This rig has good COG, but being so narrow effects it tremendously. The height is not needed for a mini course either. The tallest mini tire is 4.75", then you have as skid with a transmission on it. This is a pro chassis, so with short tires, you will still have all the skid clearance you need. These are right about 5.5", I am thinking somewhere around 5" would be perfect.

Being a new class, with nothing to judge against, its very hard to say what is good, what works, what sucks, ect.. Erik has pointed that out about his rig as well. I think Worlds is going to be very interesting"thumbsup"

Looking great! The short look I got with the video looked like you might want to bump up the shock oil a bit to help with stability. Just a thought.

Good to see some more videos of this new class, especially one running a SuDu chassis "thumbsup"

It will be interesting to see how this one compares to the mini crawler.

The mini crawlers even has a tire maximum of 4.25"

The rig actually felt a bit stiff. These big bores definately feel different than the scx shocks I am used to.

That is correct! I had class 2 scalers on the mind I guess. I think some shorter tires are in order for this rig, then I think I can do some real testing."thumbsup"

I have the same issues as Hitt, I have not driven the car enough to see where the instability comes from but this seems like a good idea. Might even have to try my sway bar as it really helped my super.

Yeah, I wouldnt get down on the car. There are just a few of us really breaking ground. It will take some time to get them dialed in. Maybe even years?

I wouldnt take assumptions on what courses will look like though. Remember, they could be anything. They could put an advantage to a 6" wheelbase or a 20" wheelbase. There could be an advantage to a 4.25" tall tire or 6". We dont know. I do think a 2.2p course might be a good setup if there are gates that are take-able on each gate. Typically 2.2p courses dont have super hard gates, not like you would run while fun crawling anyway.
