B-MOW's VS4-10 Origin Limited 13 Attachment(s) I wanted to start a build thread on my VS4-10 Origin about a year and half ago when Vanquish first added the pre-orders for the Origin back in June 2018. I didn’t want to just stick the thread in the 1.9 section, so I decided to wait until there was a Vanquish section created. Well, we have a section now and I’m going to start a thread now! I have a few major upgrades that I plan on adding to the Origin now, so this thread will be a collection of new upgrades and “flashbacks” of old upgrades that I have done for the past year and half. I’ve taken the Origin to a few comps in the past, so I will post these up also. I first remember seeing pictures and videos of the all new Vanquish VS4-10 Origin Limited at Proline By The Fire 2018. I remember thinking what an incredible work of art it was and how I would love to own one of these someday. At the time money was tight and I could see no way I would ever be ever to afford one. I finally got to see the Origin in person at Team KNK TTC 5 in June 2018. There were a couple pre-production models there running in a few classes. I was blown away at the craftsmanship and attention to detail that VP had put into this rig. At that point I knew that I had to have one of these sooner than later. The stars aligned and I came into just enough money to pre-order one in the first batch of Origin’s that were about to come out. About a month later in July 2018, my Origin was delivered. Here is a few pics of the Origin freshly built in July 2018. New updates coming soon!! |
B-MOW's VS4-10 Origin Limited As I’m looking at this the song “a long strange trip” keeps spinning. Our trucks have had a fun journey to date, now with the new transmission we will be going up a notch! Bring it Brian!! Hang up and Drive |
Re: B-MOW's VS4-10 Origin Limited Sick truck! The Roost wheels look awesome on there. |
Re: B-MOW's VS4-10 Origin Limited That interior came out great. Love the details. As always, nice work "thumbsup" |
Re: B-MOW's VS4-10 Origin Limited the body looks fantastic "thumbsup" |
Re: B-MOW's VS4-10 Origin Limited That orange is just what I've been looking for. Would it happen to be Tamiya PS-62? If so, what color is it backed with? |

Yeah, our trucks have seen a few changes here and there since the very beginning and it has been a fun journey! The Origin was already a performer, but with the VFD it will step up to the next level! Quote:

Re: B-MOW's VS4-10 Origin Limited 3 Attachment(s) To start the major upgrades to the Origin, I bought the new Vanquish VFD Transmission Kit. This VFD kit is like the VFD trans that is found in the new VS4-10 PRO with the exception of a few parts. A few of the machined aluminum parts were replaced with injection molded parts for a little cost savings. The gears in the kit are sintered instead of the machined gear set that come with the PRO. VP does offer the machined gear set to buy if needed. I plan to use the sintered gear set for now. I believe they will be just fine as they are much wider than a typical 3-gear transmission. I also picked up the Battery Tray and Bumper kit that are used on the VS4-10 PRO. The battery tray will be needed since I will have to remove the Origin battery tray to fit the VFD trans into the chassis. I also decided to get the optional aluminum motor plate and aluminum tube braces for the VFD trans. Attachment 383956 Attachment 383957 These are the parts that come with the VFD Transmission Kit. Thanks Ernie![emoji106] I appreciate that! This has been a fun rig to own and drive! I’m looking forward to getting the Origin upgraded up to the same level as the PRO! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Re: B-MOW's VS4-10 Origin Limited Did the VS4-10 pro get that little shifter, or is it exclusive to the VFD trans kit? |
Re: B-MOW's VS4-10 Origin Limited I’ve been avoiding this thread like the plague! The temptation is killing me! 🤣 I had to choose between this or the Capra. I chose the Capra! The body on this thing is so fricking cool and I love the paint colors you chose! Nicely done. 👍🏼 |

The little shifter only comes with the VFD Trans Kit. It’s a cool little feature that I’m hoping I can use. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

[emoji1787] I knew you look sooner than later![emoji1787][emoji1787] Great choice on the Capra![emoji106] I really want one, but I hit my rig limit this year! I’ve been following the Capra threads and that temptation is killing me! Maybe I can somehow sneak one in before Christmas![emoji3] Thanks Dez! These colors have always been some of my favorites. Re: B-MOW's VS4-10 Origin Limited 8 Attachment(s) I got the VFD trans put together. Just like with all of VP's products, the quality and ease of assembly is top notch. The machined aluminum and plastic molded parts fit together like a glove. Here is a comparison of the motor plates in molded plastic and machined aluminum. The plastic plate is thick and beefy and should be plenty strong enough to handle some pretty big power. I decided to go with the machined aluminum plate right off the bat so I wouldn't have to tear the trans back apart down the road. Attachment 383966 Attachment 383967 Here is the VFD trans completed. As I do with all of my rigs, I used Team KNK stainless screws throughout the trans. I like the look of the stainless on black and no need to worry about rust! Re: B-MOW's VS4-10 Origin Limited 4 Attachment(s) Back in May, Vanquish introduced the VP Chassis Kit and I picked one up as soon as they became available. The VP Chassis Kit basically uses the same chassis, braces and sliders as the new VS4-10 PRO. It comes with the Origin skid plate that accepts a 3-gear transmission. When I bought the kit I had planned on saving this chassis for a winter build. I had thought about installing an Element transmission and a set of TRX-4 axles. Well, them plans have now got thrown out the window for now! You might be able to predict where this is going!;-) Here is a look at the VP Chassis Kit. Re: B-MOW's VS4-10 Origin Limited Ah a fresh chassis. Looking good! What axles are ya gonna throw on there? Sticking with TRX4? |
B-MOW's VS4-10 Origin Limited Stock Origin trans with dig. VS4 frame, trx axles with VP linkage, trx shocks. That would be a sweet rig! BillyGoat !! Hang up and Drive |

Re: B-MOW's VS4-10 Origin Limited 14 Attachment(s) It's been awhile since I have had a chance to update my progress on my Origin. So between life and other builds that I have going on, I have nothing new to add to this build. But, I would like to take this time do a "flashback" and go back in time to March of 2019. In March the weather started to get a little warmer and the itch to get back out on the trails was strong. A somewhat local new kinda of comp was created here in Ohio. It is called the Extreme Scale 4X4 Challange (ES4C). It is a competition that was designed to replicate 1:1 Challange competions throughout the world. Each comp would be set up at different venues throughout the year. The idea was to make your vehicle as scale as possible to provide realism to the event. This new event allowed for a "co-pilot" which would follow along pointing out obstacles, setting sand ramps, setting winch hooks and starting and stopping the timer. You had the choice if you wanted the co-pilot or not. The goal was to stay within the yellow ribbon boundary and have the fastest time with the least penalties. Below are my pics of the very first ES4C at Dillion Dam in Ohio. Attachment 385277 Attachment 385278 Attachment 385279 Attachment 385280 Attachment 385281 Attachment 385282 This comp was a lot of fun and I am looking forward to new events in 2020! Now that the weather is starting to getting cold & crappy, I am hoping to get back on the Origin upgrade project soon! |
