All credit goes to B-MOW71 for creating a design that I liked enough to steal.

Back when I built my VS4-10, the lexan cracked at the front mount when I screwed it in. I have lived with it since then because I didn't want to buy a new set of inner fenders. Earlier today I saw an aluminum brace that B-MOW71 created and I thought that it would be easy enough to whip up in Fusion 360 and sure enough, it was. After only 2 test runs I ended up with this. Nice and sturdy.

Great job Dawg![emoji106] That turned out great! Looks like it should be plenty strong enough to hold the fenders in position.

Thanks for the shoutout! Glad you liked it. Back when I made mine I didn’t own a 3D printer, so I had to use what I had on hand.

I did order my first 3D printer on Christmas Day. It should arrive on Monday. So I’m hoping that I can learn how to use quick so I can start making my own parts.

I definitely want to share it. I tried last night and Thingiverse won't let me publish until I have been a member for 24 hours. If I remember, I'll publish it tonight. As soon as I do I'll throw up a link here.

Awesome! I’ll have to print one of these for my PRO. I still have my front fenders bolted to the chassis rails and I know they will be broken in no time.

Thanks in advance for sharing![emoji106]

Awesome! And thanks in advance for sharing.

Thingiverse has been having technical difficulties for a few days now.

Have you had any issues with parts deforming while baking them?

I just got this last week, set up my new printer, these are my testing prints, I have a spool of CF HTPLA in the wings. Only issue I’ve heard of is some shrinkage, lengthwise only. That can be compensated for in the slicer.
Experts opinion is 100C from cool oven, heat to 100C until translucent, about one hour. Leave in oven with supports until cool, shouldn’t warp.

PETG is a pain to print vs PLA, this prints beautifully with PLA settings

I’m printing another set, laid down differently, want to test strength, both bake tomorrow, the extras go to my buddy’s VS4

I printed mine with the gussets facing down. I think that's the stronger orientation.

I'm working on a brace for the rear fenders. I just sent the first prototype to the printer.

So, I woke up to discover that Yuengling and Fusion 360 don't go great together. I corrected my design and sent prototype #2 to the printer. When I come home for lunch I'll see how I did this time.

The rear is done. There is also a notched version for people using the fuel cell as a receiver box.

Edit: Don't do the rear mount. It prevents the body from going on.

Hot off the printer! Looks great and should work well.

Now I need to print the rear mount.

Thanks for designing and sharing![emoji106]

Re: I 3D printed a brace for my inner fenders

Huge fail on the rear mount. I never test fit the body before I published the file on Thingiverse. The rear of the body contacts the inner fenders, so that mount prevents the body from going on.

Re: I 3D printed a brace for my inner fenders

Rear brace just finished printing. Looks good. I went with cutout for wires to run thru.

Too bad about the body hitting Dawg! I may still use it to space up the fuel cell lid. I’ll just cut off the upright braces.

Re: I 3D printed a brace for my inner fenders

I just test fit it without any hardware and the body fits. I'm going to taper the hole so that a flat-head screw will fit flush. I was trying to avoid having a lock nut showing in the wheel well, but I guess that's not happening.

GA Dawg 01-01-2020 12:58 PM

Re: I 3D printed a brace for my inner fenders

I feel bad that I never tested the design with the body. Sorry to anyone that printed it. I have it changed up a bit and things are working better. It's a tight fit, but the body does go on now. It requires countersunk screws going into the wheel well. All hardware must be flush on the side facing the body.

I also printed up a couple of washers to go in the wheel wells in order to spread the load.
