Ordered a Pro and some goodies the other day. We'll see where this one ends up...

My kit and most of the parts should begin arriving tomorrow. No real plan for this one beings I just overthink everything anyway. Just, doing it.

Thanks guys! Really looking forward to this one. Wanted an Origin when they came out. Of course, missed the bus on that one. Finally landed myself in a place this year where I could afford to play a bit again, so I'm taking advantage of it.

I have to say, I’ve built probably 5-6 axial kits, a couple Venture SBKs, and an Element kit prior to buying my Pro. It’s been the most enjoyable build for me to date. Everything goes together as it should and I enjoyed the build a ton.

There are still Limited kits out there, but I think you made the right choice with the Pro.

Congrats on the grab! Glad you landed in a good place. Always good to hear for a fellow RC’er. I agree with the others, my cobbled together VS4-10 Pro is one of my favorite rigs too drive and it was an enjoyable build.

Good looking parts list there, however I am curious as to the tire choice, have you had good luck with those tires? I’ve never ran them myself but thought it was interesting to see an rtr tire over the other options out there.

I actually really like Axial's R35 compound and the more realistic dimensions of their tires. Hate the bloated swelled up look of most of the bigger 1.9 "XL" tires these days.

I also run Wildpeak MTs on my real rig ('97 Kia Sportage, 4" lift, 30x9.50r15s on 15x7s), my girl just ordered the same tires for her real rig (also a Sportage), and my kids have Falkens on their Barrage Gen 2s. Just continuing the trend.

That makes sense! Scale wins sometimes, especially when it matches 1:1.

Don't discount the R35 Axial tires though. A swap to a good set of foams and they come alive. Yeah, they may not be the latest, greatest hot shit. But they've always done a damn good job for me. And they last and last compared to some of these "sticky" compounds available today. I ran R35 1.9 Ripsaws on my Twin Hammers with Deuces Wild closed cells and they did great everywhere. One of the best "all around" setups I've owned actually.

Just got my kit about 4:30 this afternoon...it's 2:09 AM now. Chassis, axles, and trans are together. Shocks need oil still, bumpers and sliders need installed, and I need to get some shims for the front spool and pinion. The included 0.2mm units didn't cut it and the spool has about 0.5mm slop side to side.

Going to take advantage of that by shimming the pinion and spool both in tight. Feels like there might be a little room for the shims on the rear pinion to be moved inside the housing to tighten up the lash back there as well.

Otherwise, this is an amazing kit to build. Time for me to head to bed though. More parts arrive tomorrow!

Excellent work . It is a car that does not make you want to stop riding, I loved it, I have not yet released the PRO and I am already thinking of an ULTRA ...

That was an epic build night. These kits do go together quite nicely.

I didn't put any shims inside the axles and my kit didn't come with any. I didn't think it was necessary. I did use the included shims between on the output shafts of the axles between the housings and the driveshaft.

I haven't had any luck with the "new" R35 compound tires even with different foams. The old R35 compound, like on the Ripsaws, performed much better for me.

One thing I wanted to note...I hate slop BTW...the transmission, while a very nice piece of engineering, does have a bit of slop in the top shaft and outputs. This can easily be cured by swapping the stock slipper eliminator spacer for a total of 4 Traxxas 5x8x0.5mm fiber washers. I used two behind the top shaft bearing to push the top shaft completely into the trans, which fully engages the pin in the top shaft with the top shaft gear. The other two fiber washers can be used behind the slipper eliminator hub just like the stock spacer.

I have also shimmed the outputs tight with the same washers. One between each drive shaft and bearing. And the results are quite nice. No in/out slop in the shafts, full pin engagement in your gears, and it's silky smooth.

Good info! I'm far too lazy and impatient to try to take the slop out of everything. Sometimes finding the correct spacer or shim is a chore.

And I couldn't let it go. I woke up bright and early this morning and started tearing the trans back out. But I have PILES of shims for this very reason. The Traxxas units are my go-to most of the time. At 0.5mm thick, they eat up gaps quick.

The one size I don't have is for those damn spool bearings. A 7mm inside diameter is hard to find. Going to have to try to find some with a 14mm outside diameter to match the bearings, and shim the bearings in on the spools. I'll be sure to post up some parts numbers when I find something suitable.

Got all the hotrod parts installed and the car is a complete rolling chassis now. Waiting on foams and electronics. Still gotta decide on a motor and batteries and order them also.

Also have to do some hacking on the rear body posts. The billet shock towers won't allow the rear body mount posts to drop any lower. Time to get out the Dremel and get creative.
