Decisions, decisions, decisions...

Which wheel/tire setup do I use? AND, I have a set of Vanquish Method wheels arriving tomorrow. I’m going to mount them to the tires that came with the kit.

I have had these sets for over 7 yrs! I purchased them for a couple builds I was going to do. I’m going to resurrect one and build a new SCX10 ii for Axialfest in June! I’m fairly certain that I will not be using any of these on this rig. I just wanted to see what the possibilities are...

BTW - I agree with what the others are saying about bumpers. You want plastic bumpers so they slide on the rocks. The plastic also flexes a bit when hitting something instead of stopping you dead.
Thanks Jato!
Perhaps a bumper can be 3D printed? I’ll pause on the bumper for right now.

Cheers

Decided on wheels... Vanquish Method - the first two went together real smooth. The second set, took quite awhile, as the tire bead kept slipping out. It was frustrating but a lesson in patience.

Here’s tonight’s progress...

I’m wondering how I can lengthen the wires from the motor...

Of course I just realized that I neglected the motors sensor wire! Ugh... and it’s stupid long too. I’ll see if I can get a shorter one.

Oh well.

Cheers

Have you noticed a fair bit of toe-in on your Pro build? Just curious since we're building at the same time.

I have - though I think if I back out the ends of the steering link a couple turns it may solve that?

Keep me posted!

Today I spray painted the fender wells.

Cheers

I adjusted the frontmost rod, I think it's the drag link? I opened both sides about one to one and a half turns, it seems to have straightened it out. It was pretty dramaticly toed in.

I'm not sure if that's the right bar to adjust, it's just what I started with.

Thanks Shinook!
I’ll give that a try. I’m going to do a test run on my electronics tomorrow... Btw - I like how you placed your esc and receiver box

I know, I know I should have done that already but

Cheers

Thanks.

I considered running the receiver to the fuel cell in the back, but it not being waterproof and running the FS-BS6, I wanted to keep it in a box. I stole the Traxxas idea from Jato, my only gripe is that it can't be bolted in, I had to use servo tape, which wasn't ideal, but it will be easier to remove/install than removing the battery tray and all the bolts for the panels. A pleasant surprise was the structure of the box, which is different than the stock one on my TRX4, the aftermarket one I used was more compact and slightly neater to wire.

The ESC was tricky to position, there isn't a ton of space with the battery mount in place, that's the only way to mount it that fits easily. The Mamba X is larger than my HW1080, so that was a bit of a surprise.

Jato also mentioned he had the same issue with the steering, he put spacers in to close the gap, which I may do also once I get it dialed in. LMK how you manage, I think I took around a turn to turn and a half out on each side.

Small update:

And did I mention how much I am enjoying putting this kit together? This has been so much fun!

Onto the snaps...

Congrats Doc, looks like such a fun build. Love the wheel choice, but Im partial to that model. I need to pick up a VS4-10 of my own. Maybe after I finish rebuilding my TRX4.

Dude, that came out fantastic! Did you use rattle cans? Duratrax or Tamiya?

Wish I could do mine two-tone but I really suck at painting. That is the part of the build that I'am most concerned with... I'm even scared to paint the fenders!

Thank you!!!
I used Tamiya spray. The bear was masking off the interior. I wish I could redo that. The interior looks ok, but the rear bed... ugh. I may try to repaint it on the exterior. I wish I could purchase just the interior from Vanquish.

Cheers

Well I got my electronics sorted out. Shortened the wires from the motor, a friend shortened my BEC wire, and, well, it’s alive!!!

Also painted the detail pieces... ordered the “Scout” badges to help complete the rig!
