Default VS4-Runner Build

Started this one about a month or two ago. Vs4-10 ultra black edition. Really wanted to go with a hard body from the beginning and found seasquirrel.co made some mounts so I ordered them up.

I wanted something that can perform and also look good, so I decided to use bondene and glue the doors shut. I also bobbed the bed and cut some half doors.

There isn’t much space under this body, so I removed the servo winch I had in it (299LP) and went with a warn winch on a marlin bumper.

Now the mamba x sits next to the servo up front. No room for a battery now, so I contacted seasquirrel again and asked if they can build me a box for the 4runner and it’s definitely one of my favorite parts of the build.

Couldn’t help myself so I ended up taking it out for a test run after installing vanquish yellow springs all around to support this hefty boy. I also slightly trimmed the fenders before taking it out.

All caught up to this point! Hoping to keep this thread up as it goes.

Tried to figure this out myself. It’s around 4.25. Tires were from an old rcmodelex build. I have some 4.19 km3’s on the way and I’m worried they might be a bit small. Can’t really get it much lower than it is with the portals. Panhard link hits the pumpkin at full compression.

Cool looking build!

Love the body and it looks great sitting on the Ultra! I like the body mounts. I've never heard of Seasquirrel and had no idea they made RC parts. I've been looking for a way to mount the RC4WD Marlin body to my VS4-10 Origin. Order placed!

That is a nice looking battery box and fits the body well!

Subscribed and looking forward to seeing more!

Yeah I only found it through a google search. Had no idea anyone made mounts for it. If it sits at the same height as the 4runner body, the marlin bumper will fit perfectly on it.

And thanks man! I have some updates coming later today.

Thanks. Color wise I’m going with Toyota bright gold metallic. Going to be using an epoxy filler primer to try to smooth over any pinholes I missed and a 2k clear top coat. Still a couple weeks away from that though! Picture for reference. The actual color is a little more yellow than orange. Paint code is 3D8 if anyone was wondering. You can order spray cans off the bay.

Trying to get all body modifications done before going to paint. Also trying to figure out how to hide the rear shock towers or at least let them not stick out like a sore thumb. Drilled some holes in the bed to get some mounts bolted in:

The mounted is a DMG spare mount for a bomber I had laying around. I had to bend the mount to get a proper angle. Spare is an rc4wd trail buster on an mst plastic wheel to keep weight low. The “bed” section will get some kind of bed liner treatment.

Not 100% on keeping this as she’s a hefty gal!

Got a little more work done on this one. I added heavy springs all around to deal with the extra weight, but not I have my rear suspension unloading when driving over off camber obstacles. Front is fine. Any ideas on how to combat this? Maybe a sway bar?

Also did some interior work. When I initial cut it, I was ok with just a hole in the floorboard. After staring at it for hours I decided to make it more finished looking.

I also decided to go a different route with the paint and overall theme. This is going to be an homage to a retry old build. Any ideas based on this clue?

I also ordered some class 1 km3’s but felt there were a bit small. So I went back to the VXT’s on SSD wheels with brass rings.

Try going back to a medium or soft spring in the rear. It may be heavy but I bet your weight bias is pretty far forward.

Build looks great. Love how the VFD shifters line up. Like it was intended

Been busy trying to get this thing finished up! Got the paint done and wheels figured out. Not many options for the ultra without going crazy wide unfortunately. Rears are fine, but most wheels hit the knuckles up front. Running ssd trail beadlocks with jec racing rings.

Still need to paint the tool box and roll bar and add a little bit of scale parts but it’s getting close.
