Finally had a chance to get back to work on the Pro today!

The chassis is complete now, just need to install the electronics.

Painted the inner fenders with truck bed liner, same as I did with my Ultra. Gives it a nice dull and textured look I think.

Went together too quick though. But now it is time to switch over to the body and some detailing there.

Pretty happy with the stainless hardware too. Usually I like the all black look but I like the contrast this gives.

Added some chrome to the interior and radiator before mounting it to the body using my Molotow pen.

When this stuff dries it looks exactly like chrome.

Here is the before and after.

Wheels and tires.

Bought a set of BFG Krawlers in G8 compound as I have found these are the best tires for my local crawl spot (CDM).

Replaced the stock foams with Crazy Crawlers heavy duty inserts. Have these on another set of tires and they work pretty well.

Mounting all that onto a set of bronze Vanquish Method wheels. This is my first set that has the new hard composite rim that replaced the previous metal version. I have seen some disappointment with this move in other areas of this forum but all in all it’s not a big deal to me. They have some flex in them but the amount of pressure I had to apply to get that flex is way more than I would ever apply to the rig for anything. They also mounted up a lot easier than any other set of Methods I have so I have no complaints with this change.

Still working on the body. Plan is to have this fully running by next weekend.

Wheels look great! I love the bronze!

Glad to hear those tires are working out for you, I really like these and I’m in need of some good tires lmao.

Thanks!

I like the color, just never had a paint scheme I could match them up to, until now. I think they will go pretty well with the body color I choose. More to come on that in a few days

I wanted to go with the new scale hardware from Vanquish on these wheels, but just couldn't get myself to part with the $$$ to make that happen. Maybe that will happen in a few months after my wallet cools off a bit.

Here’s a shot of the interior before I mounted it to the body.

Normally don’t do interiors but this one is simple and adds a lot of value to the build.

I sprayed the bed with truck bed liner and painted the seats with Testors model aircraft paint (leather). Sprayed the remainder of the back with black.

This left the interior with the shiny lexan side exposed, which wasn’t the look I was going for.

I sprayed the visible side with a flat clear coat to give the interior a more realistic look.

The decision I probably took the longest to make on this build was what color to paint this rig.

I have been into retro colors lately and I wanted to go with a dark metallic blue. Problem was I couldn’t find that color anywhere cause everything was on back order.

Ended up finding Tamiya’s Sky Blue PS-49 and liked it better than the dark blue I originally wanted to go with.

Paint was thinner than I thought and I ended up using 2 cans to finish the body. It’s also not super forgiving so some blemishes show through. From a distance it looks great and after some rock rash those blemishes will “disappear”.

I grew up in Ohio so I figured it was time to put some Ohio plates on one of my rigs.

All that’s left now are the electronics.

Of note. The wheel nuts on the Pro and Ultra are different sizes. The Pro uses a 7mm nut (on the left of the pic) and the Ultra uses an 8mm nut.

Them VP wheels look beautiful! Love the bronze color!

Body color looks great and go well with them wheels! Interior looks great too with the flat clear. I like the look of the dull paint look and the bed liner in the bed turned out great!

Great choice on the OHIO plate! I'm sure Brutus would approve! Go Buckeyes!

Thanks B! Looking forward to getting this out on the rocks in a couple of weeks.

The plate is one of the new metal ones from RC Plate Shop. Had to get the UV coating on this one cause my previous ones would fade on me.

Go Bucks!

I thought that looked like the metal plate from RC Plate Shop. I have a few of their plastic plates and they look great! I need to get an order in for the metal plates with the UV coating!

When I ordered the wheels for this build I only ordered two bead lock rings instead of four. I also realized I needed some lead extensions for my ESC and my servo. Had to take a pause on the build until those arrived.

Finished the wheels tonight and will be working on the electronics a little later this week.

Here is a pic of the Ultra next to the Pro so you can get an idea of the ground clearance differences with the portals.

Finished the electronics install tonight and was able to get a little juice flowing through it tonight for the first time.

Installed a HW1080 ESC as I have found this to be a cheap but very effective ESC. Can’t beat it for around $40!

Cleaned up the wiring too using some split sleeve tubing. Blends the wiring in and also keeps things neat under the hood.

Short of a shake down this weekend for a final check on everything, it’s ready to hit the rocks!

Taking the 23rd off work and plan to break it in at CDM

Such a gorgeous rig. Nice pics, I think I am drooling...lol

One day I will have to pull the trigger on one of these. My only concern is that it may spoil me.

I will get some pics up when I get her on the rocks. I think she will be right at home at CDM!

Thanks Smog!

These rigs are worth it for sure. Other than changing out the shocks and adding the 21% OD, I really see no need to upgrade anything. The only changes I have considered moving forward are cosmetic.

And you will be spoiled, I promise....and your other rigs will be jealous too!

Thanks for following along guys!

Thanks Jato!

It has a much more metallic/icy blue look to it in person, and really looks good from about 3 feet or more away. I would say this is probably the most finicky Tamiya paint I have ever used but also the first time I have tried one of their metallic finishes.

When you get closer, you can see some of the imperfections (OK, user errors) such as a smudge or finger print on the body. I did wash it before painting, but I probably should have buffed it with microfiber cloth before applying any paint. Hindsight is always 20/20!

Took the day off work and decided to start my holiday break at CDM today with a morning crawl with the Pro.

First shake down for this rig and so far so good.

Happy Holidays!
