Default VS4-10 custom shock towers

I have a VS4-10 that I've been using mainly for competition in class 1. But I'm thinking I want to build something else for that, so I'm in the process of turning my VS4-10 into more of a trail rig.

One thing I don't like is lack of tunability, and the stock shock towers are pretty limiting in that regard. I'd like to have some different upper mount options that allow laying the shocks over a little (rather than straight up). Also, my VS4-10 is an Ultra so I have portal axles and the kit shocks are 80mm but I really prefer to use the same ~90mm shocks I use on most everything else.

There are a couple aftermarket options I believe, but I decided to make my own. So I designed what I wanted and then cut them out of 3mm carbon fiber...just because I wanted to try it. I'm pretty happy with these, they definitely meet the goals and they came out pretty good considering this was my first time cutting cf on my mini mill.

Same exact design for front and rear:

Very nice! What mini mill are you using?

Thanks guys.

I'm using an Openbuilds mini mill. Wishing I would have went with a larger machine now, though I've had this thing for a while. I didn't have any plans originally for larger projects, but now I want to design and cut my own chassis rails.

Shock towers look great! They look factory made! Great job!

That is the one thing that I miss on my VS4-10's. I like to lay to shocks inward on the front and rear a little on my other rigs.

Thanks B!

Getting the shocks positioned better has made a big difference in how the truck works, at least when doing testing without a body on. I think I'm gonna change my mind and continue using this truck for class 1 competition now rather than build a whole new truck...might as well since I've addressed one of the main complaints I have with it. Should be interesting to see how I can get this thing working while using the VS4-10 frame and drivetrain. I'll have to shorten it a bit because I need to run a hard body and it will be a Tamiya F350.
