Carpetfuzz’s VS4 build for the future crawler This project started almost 7 months ago. As some know we were blessed by bringing our first child into the world. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...77e774794c.jpg I thought he was going need a truck of his own in the future but what do I want to get him. I obviously had plenty of time to find something but as luck would have it a clean VS4 chassis kit slider popped up on the for sale section. I figured how could I go wrong. After getting the truck in my hands it was easy to tell the truck was never used. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...1d724557ba.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...1ee5383daf.jpg I tossed on some wheels and tires and a spare motor just to get an idea of what I was going to be working on. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...43f656f66e.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5b1570b232.jpg This is about the time that I started to have ideas on what I wanted to do. This project is in no major rush just having fun with the build of it. I try to squeeze in a couple minutes here and there so it is definitely going to be longer than my normal build times. As a follow up here’s the little guy 7 months later happy as could be. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...511d7dffeb.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

When I told him Unky Erine was going to build him a truck he had the biggest smile :ror: and then he covered his face face up when I told him that I was working on one for him. Like he already knows how long it is going to be for me :lmao: |
Re: Carpetfuzz’s VS4 build for the future crawler I did forget to mention everything it came with already SSD front diamond axle with Samix brass link mounts and Samix brass chubs along with SSD brass knuckles. SSD rear diamond axle Samix brass link mounts with SSD lockouts Aluminum Axial shocks and links with the Axial 3 gear transmission with machined gears As for my plan of attack some of these items are not going to make the cut. Definitely going to be adding some more bits and bobs. As for the body I do have something in mind. Rather I can pull it off or not is the question. If I feel that I can’t I might just let him pick his own color once he is old enough but really hoping that my first idea works out. |
Re: Carpetfuzz’s VS4 build for the future crawler Welcome to dadhood, it's a life changer for sure! :) He's adorable! |

Thank you so much for the kind words "thumbsup" Definitely been life changing around here but in a good way. I want to build something up for him that is going to be easy to drive and also be very kid friendly. Hopefully the body works out for what I have planned. |
Re: Carpetfuzz’s VS4 build for the future crawler I was looking at the transmission and thought about doing an offset front axle. Flipped the transmission around and now I have the out puts going the right way for the front offset. Also added the Pro sliders to help lock the body in place. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f8a434f5c8.jpg Next was some new offset tubes from SSD with the TK offset front universals. I wanted to have as much steering as possible for the little guy so that should do the trick. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a17b53edf0.jpg I am liking how things are coming together so far Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Carpetfuzz’s VS4 build for the future crawler This thing is coming along nice brother! Big Al will love it! Glad to see you back to posting here on the forum! Reminds me that I really need to update my build threads. :lmao: Can't wait to see what this thing turns into and to see him running it! Keep up the great work like I know you do! "thumbsup" |

Thank you Unky Animal. It’s definitely going to be a fun time building it. Still not sure what to do on the body but I still want to go with my original plan but like you said it might be better to let him decide. This is probably going to be the look on his face when it’s FINALLY completed. You know what I am talking about hahahaha https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...225cc951f8.png Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Carpetfuzz’s VS4 build for the future crawler This truck came with a 11.4 WB. That’s not fitting my plans so time for some new links. To get it back to the 12.3WB I decided on some high clearance links. Not sure if they are going to be best option for a young driver but I can definitely see the difference between the front and rear link position. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8b2f250da3.jpg Up next it’s got to be these leaky Axial shocks. I already have plans for those. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Carpetfuzz’s VS4 build for the future crawler I have been following TGH on the truss for the SSD Diamond axle. Last week when they came available I knew I needed one for this truck. I have visions of the little guy stuck and hammering away. Hopefully this will help. I went with the brass truss for his truck thinking a little bit extra weight down low could help him out. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...cd356a0ed4.jpg The machine work on the truss is top notch. Couldn’t be more happier with it. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5ac54d8936.jpg The stainless steel screws that are included is a nice. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9c708f52d5.jpg Everything lined up with no issues. With the new screws installed on the side of the center section there is no rubbing on the axle shafts. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f7eca2add9.jpg Only thing now is deciding to leave it brass color for spray it black.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6e5f72eaf5.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5a8b67bc17.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Carpetfuzz’s VS4 build for the future crawler The axle back on the truck and looks really good in my opinion. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...de1bc1a961.jpg Also finished up with the links just need to add a couple spacers and all is good. Guess that’s what happens when you you pick up EBay specials at midnight. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...053da542d6.jpg Between the brass links and the rear truss everything really comes together. Re: Carpetfuzz’s VS4 build for the future crawler These are the links that I went with off my EBay midnight special. The front links are good but the rears came up a bit short. Easy fix was add a couple spacers to get the proper length and ordered up some longer 4mm threaded rods from Team KnK. Next in line is those damn leaking Axial shocks.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...1f329c718a.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Carpetfuzz’s VS4 build for the future crawler Looking good brother!!! Know that the little guy is gonna love that thing! Can't wait to see him drive it! |
