| VS4-10 Phoenix Problem with DIG
Sorry for starting a new thread but I couldn't find anything specific to this issue. I just build my VS4-10 Phoenix Portal kit and set my endpoints on my servos correctly however my DIG is very inconsistent. When I try to engage DIG the slider doesn't fully slip into the locker but instead gets stuck on the teeth, putting strain on the servo. Only a handful of times did it slide into the teeth and fully engage. I looked it over several times but can't seem to figure it out. I'm hoping someone can chime in and help me out?

I'd get a fine file and make sure there are no burrs or sharp edges, keeping those parts from easily engaging.

Is this just on the bench, or while driving the rig on obstacles like normal? If it’s just on the bench, I’d say go drive it outside and see how it works there first. My vfd dig was finicky on the bench but flawless during normal driving. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'd really hate to take everything apart again but that's what I might have to do. I've seen RC Review mention something about the Vanquish transmission meant to shift under power. When I shift overdrive you can feel it very briefly catch on the teeth of the slider then when you apply a bit of gas it slips right into place, I thought the DIG would do the same but that's not the case. I did set my DIG to three position, I wonder if I was better off leaving that as a 2 position switch only. I'll definitely look at the transmission one more time.

So far just a bench test and on the ground at my place. Just afraid to take it out and fry the servo if it gets jammed up. Do you have your DIG set to a three position switch?

When actually crawling, the weight of the vehicle should put pressure on the wheels to rotate and get the dig to fully engage. On the bench use your hand to rotate a rear tire, and it should engage. I have a regular vfd w/dig that is really sticky. Just the pressure from the servo locks up the rear, but it's not heavy enough to rotate the tires and fully get it to engage. I'm not currently using it, but I used it for months like that. I used the dig as briefly as possible, and just lived with the buzzing, because I was too lazy to take it apart. Servo never burned up. On a side note, I recommend 2 position for the dig. Ideally you want to go straight from 4x4 to dig as quickly as possible. I've never found it useful to allow the rear wheels to freewheel. It's just gonna make you slide off an obstacle. 3 position for the OD shifter is fine, just because it's fun to tool around in rear wheel drive sometimes. |

I'm sure you tested the dig after you assembled the tranny. And I'm sure you noticed that you had to rotate the driveshaft sometimes to get the dig to fully engage. It will engage better under power I'm sure. But I'm with twade984 and STUPID. No insult intended.

I was having trouble setting up my dig w/ decent servos, surprisingly when I switched to a rtr AE steering servo did I get positive 3 pos dig. This is on a Flysky gt5 dig on channel 3?

What servo are you using to actuate dig and OD? Again you’ll need some movement of the driveshaft to get the dig to align the lock out position dogs. It took me some finagling to get my dig working perfectly in all 3 positions. |

I appreciate you all chiming in on this, definitely a relief to know it isn’t some weird defect. I will take it out for a spin this coming week and report back. Yes, when I spin the rear wheels by hand a bit the DIG will lock in perfectly. As for shift servos Im using 2 15kg AGFRC low profile servos, and using a Futaba 4PV set to three position switching. I will play around with just two position switching for the DIG, should be easy to setup on my Futaba. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

| Re: VS4-10 Phoenix Problem with DIG Finally got a chance to take this bad boy out..Dig seems to be working though i cant tell with the body if its fully engaged. Im absolutely impressed with its capabilities. My transmission is extremely loud though, honestly kind of annoying to both me and Hikers on the trails. Anyone else with a noisy transmission? My VFD Twin in my Phoenix isn't too loud, but does make noise. The more you drive it, the more the gears will wear in and get quieter. That is as long as it is built correctly and nothing is out of place inside the transmission. | |

Took the tranny out and gave it a once over, so far looks correct. I’m running the same esc/motor combo as indybama. I’ll keep driving it and see if it gets any better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks! I ended using Createx wicked colors pearl lime backed with silver then black. Everything seems right, ended up giving the pinion/ spur a bit more space, hopefully that will tame it down a notch. I’ll give it some more mileage and see if it quiets a bit.
